Premier schedules public consultations for Whistleblowers Act

-Police Act & Integrity in Public Life Act also set for public scrutiny

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Public consultation for three accountability and good governance legislation- the Whistleblowers Act 2021, the Integrity in Public Life Act, 2021, and the Police Act 2019- will kick off today, Monday, May 3, 2021.

“These consultation meetings are part of the Government’s vision to building these Virgin Islands together with the people. I am inviting residents to come out and let their voices be heard as these pieces of legislation will chart the course and improve various aspect of our lives and the further the development of our Territory,” Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1)said in a statement.

For the Whistleblowers Act 2021, the schedule is as follows:

  • Monday, May 3 at 5:00 p.m. at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School on Tortola
  • Tuesday, May 5 at 7:00 p.m. live Public Eye on BVI Government’s Facebook page, ZBVI 780 AM and CBN Channel 101 on Flow TV
  • Wednesday, May 5 at 5:30 p.m. at the Catholic Community Centre on Virgin Gorda

The Police Act, 2019:

  • Monday, May 10 at 7:00 p.m. live Public Eye on BVI Government’s Facebook page, ZBVI 780 AM and CBN Channel 101 on Flow TV
  • Monday, May 25 at 5:00 p.m. at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School on Tortola
  • Wednesday, May 26 at 5:30 p.m. at the Catholic Community Centre on Virgin Gorda and live on BVI Government’s Facebook page and CBN Channel 101 on Flow TV
  • Thursday, May 27 at 11:00 a.m. at the Foxy’s on Jost Van Dyke

The Integrity in Public Life Act, 2021:

  • Monday, May 17 at 7:00 p.m. live Public Eye on BVI Government’s Facebook page, ZBVI 780 AM and CBN Channel 101 on Flow TV
  • Tuesday, May 18 at 5:30 p.m. at the Catholic Community Centre on Virgin Gorda and live on BVI Government’s Facebook page and CBN Channel 101 on Flow TV
  • Wednesday, May 19 at 5:00 p.m. at the Althea Scatliffe Primary School on Tortola
  • Thursday, May 20 at 7:00 p.m. at the Leonora Delville Primary School on Tortola
  • Monday, May 24 at 7:00 p.m. at the Eileene L. Parsons Auditorium

Premier Fahie has said his government will take legislation to the people to collect feedback and ensure that everyone is on board with proposed bills before they become law.

As part of that process, legislation will face public scrutiny ahead of its second and final readings in the House of Assembly.
