Premier: Gun Creek a start to a better Virgin Islands

NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. Hon. D. Orlando Smith in declaring the Gun Creek Port in North Sound, Virgin Gorda an official port of entry, today May 18, 2012, stated that it is a start to a better Virgin Islands (VI).
Premier Smith referred to the new port of entry as a milestone in VI’s history.

“I always knew that there will come a moment for its formal celebration.”

He stated that it is the Government’s intention to join the port industries with the tourism sector to strengthen the economy.

“This Port is a very important sector in the BVI tourism. This Port will also provide jobs for the people of Virgin Gorda.”

The Premier told the attendees of the ceremony that everyone in the VI has a part to play in ensuring the visitors of the country are pleased with their destination choice and would want to come back.

“To ensure the success of the Virgin Islands it is important that all its islands play an important role.”

He said, the Virgin Islands has rightfully earned a spot in tourism around the Caribbean and the people along with their government must work to maintain this spot.

“Gun Creek is a gate way where visitors are entertained, This port will lead to a better BVI.”

He added that the Gun Creek Port will be known as a port of entry within the VI with a difference and will attract more activity to Virgin Gorda.

Meanwhile, 9th District Representative Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, thanked Premier Smith and his Ministers for taking the initiative of making the harbour an official port of entry. He added that he hopes workers and Virgin Islanders realise the significance of the port and keep it clean in an effort to satisfy its visitors.

      Wasn't this port already opened? If Seaborne landed there before, then it must have been able to accept vessels from a foreign port? Can someone please clarify. Thnaks.

        After almost 8 months this is all we got from the NDP????? Strupps...yaawn. When are they going to do something about education, health care, and come up with a serious plan to fight crime and address the discrimination and the plight of indigenous Virgin Islanders? Who are they building the BVI for is the question.
