Premier Fahie pledges ‘full support’ to new OECS Chairman

FIVE ISLANDS VILLAGE, St John’s, Antigua- Premier and Minister of Finance of the Virgin Islands, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has pledged his full support to the Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, the Honourable Gaston A. Browne, who assumed his role as Chairman of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) Assembly.

Premier Fahie led a Virgin Islands delegation to the Fourth Sitting of the OECS Assembly held at the Royalton Resort in St John’s Antigua on Monday June 17, 2019 where both Government and Opposition Parliamentarians from across the region were in attendance.

The VI delegation included Minister for Education, Culture, Agriculture, Fisheries, Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr The Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7); Leader of the Opposition Honourable Marlon A. Penn (R8) and Ms Najan Christopher from the Premier’s Office.

“The strength of the Caribbean Region is through unity. The journey in this oneness of purpose has been strengthened through the Fourth Sitting of the OECS Assembly…” a statement from the Virgin Islands Government on Monday June 17, 2019 read.

According to the brief statement, during the sitting Premier Fahie moved the motion to have Honourable René M. Baptiste CMG take the Chair as Speaker of the OECS Assembly.

It noted too that Premier Fahie gave a statement of De-Risking in the region and highlighted the impact of the potential loss of correspondent banking relations and the VI economy.

Premier Fahie also made a statement on the territory’s recovery efforts and the delivery of aid pledges in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma.

    This premier is better at dealing with the regional and international issues and bringing people together
