DUFF’S BOTTOM, Tortola, VI – Virgin Islands (VI) Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has called for mutual respect between those who take the COVID-19 vaccine and those who don’t, in a bid to preserve relationships in the territory.

The Premier made the call during the Thursday, May 13, 2021, Ninth Sitting of the Third Session of the Fourth House of Assembly at the Save the Seed Energy Centre in Duff's Bottom,  shortly after a presentation from the Minister of Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) on the local vaccination progress.

Persons have right to vaccinate or not - Premier

“Mr Speaker is it very simple… educate, then don’t procrastinate [and] vaccinate and respect those who do not want to vaccinate, that’s your democratic right and you should make sure you exercise your democratic right.”

“But at the same time though, you must respect those who are using their democratic right to push for vaccination and let’s not fall out over this,” he said.

According to the Leader of Government business, too many relations in the VI have been damaged over the vaccine on whether to take it or not.

“If you don’t want to take it don’t take it… and if you [are] taking it, take it. If you don’t want persons taking it.. defend yourself in a respectful way,” he said.

Vaccine dividing families & territory?

According to the Premier, the contention over the vaccine has been breaking up homes, families and the country.

Hon Fahie said; however, the administration will continue to encourage vaccinations. “As the government, as Premier, I think it’s the most credible option that we do have to save lives and to strengthen and save our economy,” he said.

As of Thursday, May 13, 2021, 11,036 persons had received their first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine while 3,765 had received their second dose, the Health Minister revealed.

so...its their democratic right not to vaccinate EXCEPT when it comes to rich white employers forcing it on the employees under the guise of the labour code? oh ok....
    • Lucifer (18/05/2021, 14:55) Like (19) Dislike (14) Reply
So you need to decide whose rights are more important. Someone who wishes to minimize the risk of getting badly sick or someone who wishes not to be vaccinated. If a business owner can be sued because customers or other employees get sick at his business he they have to be allowed to put policies in place to protect those customers and staff

Employers will be insisting on vaccines. Because an unvaccinated person is 100 times as likely to catch Covid as a vaccinated person and if an employee goes down with Covid the business is going to be closed, workers put in quarantine, customers barred and so on.

"In the Seychelles at least 60% of population fully vaccinated and still getting the COVID-19"

Of course they will get Covid until 100% of them are vaccinated. Then they will get a tiny amount because no vaccine is 100% effective. But obviously the more that get vaccinated the better. How is it possible that you don't understand that?.

Ok @Shakehead explain to me the benefit of the shots then? Cause if my white blood cells and immune system can't develop anti bodies on it own when Covid hits me then I'm just not healthy. That is on me and if I die I die so why is it a bother to anyone else? If I vax and you vax and still destroying your own body with bad diet lack of fitness and abuse of vices then we still give each other Covid. But oooh I won't get sick that bad so that's my benefit? NONESENSE!

That being said I have no problems with the ones that took it or planning on taking the jab.

The Government saying one thing and then turning around and doing something different. If it is a person right to choose whether to take the vaccine or not, why are people being layed of at their jobs for not taking it and when they go labour they telling them there is nothing they can do about it.

I think when it comes to vaccination you all need to take the lead and lead by example, its the only way to move forward and rebuilding our economy.... Lots of those workers swesr not to take the vaccine..Are you going to move them from the front to the back and bring vaccinated to the front....Whats you all Plan? ?.
