Warmest condolences to Rene Julius, popularly known as Panchie, family on his sudden and untimely passing. Panchie, along with his older Brother Anthony ‘Do-Do Bim’ Bridgewater, and I were schoolmates at the Road Town Primary School. Panchie, though born in either St.Kitts or Nevis, migrated to the VI at a young age and made it his beloved home. I last saw Panchie at Rightway Supermarket in Purcell in September 2019; of course, he was dressed in his favorite and signature colour—-Green.’ At the time, he was mourning the loss of his brother Anthony Bridgewater; he also lost a younger brother George a few years ago.

Panchie was a generous, affable soul that love and lived life. He was ardent softball supporter and an accomplished softball player. He had a flair for the game. On the Astros team, he at first base and James ‘Butchie’ Eddie at second base were an impregnable duo; it was difficult to hit through the right side with any success. Panchie was fearless and competent and dare any batter to lay down a bunt on the right side. He was always a top selectee for the national team.

May he RIP. To the family, stay strong and keep the faith.

I think Butchie Eddie was the 3rd baseman and Rupert Smith the short stop. Can't remember who the 2nd baseman was. But yes, Panchie was the first baseman. I can still remember Panchie's base hit between 3rd and short. I think it was in a (1976 or 1977) championship game against Webb Frett and the Atoms, which effectively sealed the win for the Astros.

Can't remember who won the series.

@1970's... Butchie was the second base man. Yes he was the human vaccum cleaner. Good glove. RIP Panchie aka de yabba.

@Cousin, keep the faith and be strong. Panchie (the Yabba as Guy Hill remembers) was more than an elite softball player or a food van entrepreneur. He was a true Virgin Islander and a part of the VI fabric; a part of the community. As I and other Virgin Islanders, he was a kindred Virgin Islander, embracing the culture, customs, and courtesies of the BVI. He will be missed but remembered.

Panche made basketball more entertaining as he was very vocal on the sidelines in bad boy corner during the good ol days of "Old Court" Next basketball or softball season should definitely be named in his honor. RIP

Never had his chicken. Heard sooo much praise about it but never got around to that experience. Much regrets. Perhaps his recipe will continue somehow.
Condolences to all and also to the BVI.
