'Policing is not merely an occupation, it is a calling'- Jacqueline E. Vanterpool

This was the message from Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline E. Vanterpool as she marked the official start of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) 58th anniversary on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
"This year, as we celebrate the 58th anniversary of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force as an independent body since 1967. We do serve with immense pride, gratitude, and reflection."
The Acting Commissioner reminded officers that this celebration is a time for introspection, helping them find the wisdom and strength to guide the future of the RVIPF, ensuring that the Force remains resilient, united, and steadfast in service.
The theme for the anniversary celebrations is 'Our Purpose and Passion Revived; Restoring Connections while Saving Lives'.
The Acting CoP urged the officers of the RVIPF to remember that, despite facing change, challenges, and sacrifices, their mission of serving, protecting, and preserving life, people, and property endures.
'Progress may not always come easily'
Vanterpool highlighted the progress made over the past few years, stating, "Over the past year, much has been done to address concerns, strengthen our operations, and bring the capacity of our officers. We have worked diligently to improve the tools, training, and leadership development necessary to meet modern policing challenges."
She also mentioned that the RVIPF has deepened partnerships with the community and other agencies, recognising that safety and security are shared responsibilities.
"Our focus on reducing crime and creating safer communities continues to drive everything we do. Progress may not always come easily. But every step forward represents a collective determination to make the Virgin Islands a safer place for all who live, work, and visit here."
Vanterpool emphasised that policing is not merely an occupation but a calling that demands courage, compassion, faith, and, above all, a "sovereign heart".
She encouraged officers to reflect deeply on their reasons for serving, the lives they have impacted, and the significance of their dedication. "Remember, every act of kindness, every moment of patience, and every decision rooted in integrity brings us closer to the kind of community itself to build, one of trust, respect, and unity."
The Acting Commissioner concluded, "As we move forward, let us be reminded that our greatest strength lies in our unity, unity of purpose, of vision, and of heart. We are one force and by a common duty, and guided by a shared commitment, to serve with excellence. Together, we can overcome any challenge and continue to make our community safer, stronger and more resilient."
