Police Week 2016 to kick off Saturday February 27, 2016

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI– The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force will kick off its 49th year celebration of Police Week on Saturday February 27, 2016 at the East End Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Under the theme, “Forging ahead in unity to build a safer community”, Acting Commissioner of Police, at the service, will report on the territory’s crime statistics for 2015 and reveal trends for 2016. He will share on the Force’s efforts to provide a more citizen-focus service to the public and launch the Force’s new website. A Police parade to the church from the East End Police Station will precede the service at 9am.

On Sunday afternoon, February 28, 2016 the territory’s law enforcers will gather at the A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground at 5:30pm to showcase their skills in an athletic meet. Police, Fire and Prison will compete in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, 4x1 and 4x4 relay races.

On Tuesday evening, March 1, Police will host a series of domino games for law enforcers as well as members of the community at the Road Town Police Canteen at 7pm.

Wednesday night, March 2, 2016 is for the ever-popular International Food and Drinks Night. The public can indulge in delicacies from around the world at this Police Week crowd favourite. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door for $10.

And on Friday night, March 4, a jackpot for $3,000 is up for grabs at the Police Week Bingo Night. A booklet of 11 cards can be purchased for $25. The events will begin at 7:30pm at the Road Town Police Canteen.

And on Saturday, March 5, Police will compete against Prison in a Cricket Match. First ball will be bowled by the Superintendent of Prison David Foot to the Acting Commissioner of Police Alwin James. That match starts at 3pm.

The RVIPF is encouraging the public to come out in support of the events.

    i for one think we should support our police, they do a difficult job and do not deserve the ridicule that they get from the people. I have heard many young men call them such derogatory names as pigs, babylon, swine, beast boys, popo, 5-0 and others but that is wrong. We should teach our youth to respect the people who put their lives on the line to protect us.
