WEST END, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) and the Department of Immigration are actively pursuing about 6 to 8 men who entered the Territory yesterday morning, August 22, 2020, and docked at Alfredo Delville Marina in West End, Tortola.

Sources within the RVIPF said the group was seen in a vessel travelling at a "very fast rate" from the direction of St John, US Virgin Islands (USVI).

Eyewitnesses said the men also had a motorcycle onboard the vessel.

By the time law enforcement arrived at the dock; however, the men had already made their escape in two vehicles, one described as a grey pickup truck, which they had attached a dinghy.

One reportedly fled on the motorcycle with a large duffle bag on his back.

More details will be provided as they come in.

The recent spike in positive COVID-19 cases in the Virgin Islands is being attributed to illegal entry and human smuggling.

Please stop pretending you have aN effective border patrol. Ask for help. Radar, personnel, cctv on the two roads that exit West End. Come on, this can’t be that difficult.

All of West End is in a navigation exclusion zone (in theory). To watch, you'd think that was completely untrue. Go-fasts come and go at will, the zoom around right in front of the West End Police Station. These are NOT fishermen! The BVI Police are getting a reputation - They couldn't catch a cold!

The various authorities enforcing the exclusion zone at the western border need to step up their surveillance, pursuit and capture skills. To slow, to late, to bad for the rest of us. The infectious virus has changed the smuggling game forever.

They had time to offload the bike and and attach a dingy to the pickup before police arrived. Hmmm. You have to be on the alert dear police or marine patrols

How much road it got between the dock and the west police station. On a stormy day they couldn't find a pickup with a boat hook to it? guess they needed it to drive up the police station driveway for them to find it. So all this info and none of the eyewitness ain't tek no picture. If my drawers roll up on the side they done take a pic and post, but they can't post a illegal activity

I notice the amount of cameras them butting up round the island to watch us but only the gerverment knows why they don't point some out towards the waters at various points so you might have a idea even a clue of what or who your dealing at the end of the day even put some out Jost van dyke at point way you might be able to see vessels going and coming there are great technology out there to help in the fight against border security we behind for real

I am wondering how long it took police to get to the scene. I am not at all impressed by the level of efficiency of the police department (and yes I am grateful to the people that serve). I think that we need to see more strategic planning in terms of approaches to matters such as surveillance (both land and sea). Based on personal knowledge as well, I think that a number of junior and senior officers lack basic competencies and professionalism. This leads to less respect from the public. I hope to see improvement in these areas in the near future.

Where you are now are you reading the blogs and reconsidering your irresponsible, careless, reckless behaviour?

Do you know whether you are positive for Covid-19?

If you were in a community where there was an outbreak of Measles or Chicken Pox would you have risked others catching it? Then, why do it for a more dangerous virus?

If you infected your parents/siblings/grandparents/children and anyone of them were to die from Covid-19 God forbid, would you still be selfish in your actions?

The USVI and Bahamas were in single digits and now the USVI has over 300 cases while Bahamas has over 1,300. This transpired in just over a month.

Contact the medical hotline at 852-7650 to arrange testing. Others who you were in contact with should do the same.

Do you rather you or your family and friends be 6 feet under or 6 feet or more apart?

Stop making foolish decisions and correct the error you made by illegally entering putting others at risk.

The only logical conclusion to the BVI having porous borders is that those in authority want it this way. Are those in authority also involved in illegal activity/drugs/smuggling?

If not then why hasn’t investment been made and help requested in an area of national security?

U.K. please look at this. This affects you too!

    Why you lie?

Honourable Malone stated that the movement of vessels within Territorial waters is restricted except for approved fisherfolk and intra-island ferries with the exception of those traveling to and from Anegada.
    • agreed (23/08/2020, 12:42) Like (16) Dislike (0) Reply
Even if they was JVD. There was a curfew order in place restricting the movement of private vessels. That is the problem with this place people do not follow rules. They may not have been involved in illegal smuggling but they were nonetheless involved in illegal activity because they were on the water against the order. Fine them! And fine the ones that picked them up! We have to make an example and show how serious we taking this issue.

Most of the car and boat rentals in the BVI is a FRONT FOR ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES AND MONEY LAUNDERING. THE ILLEGALS ARE DROPPED OFF ON THE WESTERN END OF ST.THOMAS,PICKED UP BY VEHICLE TO AN UNKNOWN LOCATION AND IS TRANSPORTED INTO THE BVI BUY LOCALS OF THE BVI. HIDDEN CAMERAS NEED TO BE INSTALLED IN AREAS AROUND THE BOARDER OF THE BVI.

@Tim, the info that I have, plenty knows and is aware of what I stated in my comment. The smuggling will continue until the boarder is properly secured. I would also say the majority of car rentals, bike rentals and boat rentals is a cover for the human smuggling ring.

Police don't care. Boats passing all night long, no one else hears or sees? I call once and reported hearing a boat coming in to town during curfew and I was questioned, like they can't trace my number, lol, and then told to call a different number.. By the time they finish with me the boat and all it's people them land and on their way.

Forget about the police doing their job, they are lazy and rude. Why did they need my name, did I sound stupid??? Since then I heard more boats going by in curfew, but why bother to call and get in drama. Police dept here is full of people who don't want to work or catch anyone.
    • @Wondering (23/08/2020, 14:20) Like (15) Dislike (0) Reply
So correct, they question the person that calls in the report like the person is the criminal. If I call in a report I don’t think that I should have to give my name and address. I have to live here and I don’t want my name and address to be know for fear of repercussions by YES, THE CROCKED COPS ON THE FORCE. NOT EVERY COP ON THE FORCE IS CROCKED BUT THERE ARE A FEW THAT SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE WEEDED OUT. THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF A DANGEROUS SNAKE IS TO TAKE THE HEAD OFF.

No joke, if I am walking down a alley or short cut by myself and I see certain police, I am taking off running in the other direction for my safety. I am no criminal nor am I involved in any criminal activities. The crooked police in this place is know for working with the criminals, taking daily bribes and dropping your name. The police KNOWS ABOUT THE HUMAN SMUGGLING INTO THE BVI AND CHOOSE TO TURN A BLIND EYE. The boarder is closed but all time of night you can hear speed boats on the water. Normal boaters don’t be on the water that time of night .

Even daily island wide patrolling the COP can’t put together. You expect a plan to patrol the sea. How could you be the COP for a set of islands and have no plan or resources to properly patrol the waters and you here for how many years. You see why people really think these people come here on vacation. Because it’s a fact. Nothing to show really.

The pick-up truck was local, so was the driver. Turn the men in. Tell the Police where they are. Make an example of them. Somebody got them in their house.
