TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- Reports reaching our News Centre from the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport are that on Monday, December 15, 2025, a police officer of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) was detained.

It is reported that during the security search, the male police officer was found with spent shells on his person. Police have been tight-lipped about the incident; however, our newsroom is chasing the story and will bring more details as they become available.

"Our comms team will be in contact with you," Interim Acting Commissioner Richard Ullger told our News Centre this morning, December 17, 2025.

Low morale?

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force has faced low morale in the past month due to the removal of the territory's first female Acting Commissioner of Police, Jacqueline E. Vanterpool, by the UK-appointed Governor Daniel Pruce.

Ms Vanterpool, a local, was recommended for the top post by the Police Service Commission (PoSC).

Mr Pruce, however, used his power received through the colonial constitution to place another UK national, Mr Ullger, in the position, even though that recommendation was rejected by the PoSC.

Spent shells? Pieces of brass. Why is this even a thing. Just for context, spent shells are allowed through US airports, in carry on bags. Comm's team, let me give you a tip, call it an accident and be done with it. Dumb laws, dumb results.

Is this news? It's not illegal to have spent shells (they aren't firearms, and they are no longer explosives), and it's reasonable to think that a police officer would be involved in the use of firearms.
