ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Two vehicles, including one for the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) K9 Unit, sustained the most damages in a 4-vehicle accident at Baughers Bay in the vicinity of Mala’s West Indian Delight around 10:30 p.m. last evening February 11, 2012.

According to reports reaching Virgin Islands News Online, one of the vehicles - a Mitsubishi Montero bearing number plate 7172 was heading east when it collided with the left rear side of the Police vehicle, which was reportedly attempting to turn right off the road from the opposite direction.

The impact reportedly sent the Police vehicle into a car (Subaru), which was stationary on the side of the road while the Montero, which suffered damages to the right front as well as a punctured tyre, ended up in the other lane where it hit a car coming in the opposite direction. The car didn’t seem to sustain any damage save for a scratched bumper.

No one was injured.

There was a long debate between Police officers and the driver of the Montero, who was being accused of speeding, however, the driver of the Montero argued that the Police vehicle suddenly turned into his path and that he did apply brakes. Police were seen looking for skid marks but none was visible, however, from the point of impact and the short distance where the Montero ended, it didn’t appear as speeding was necessarily a factor.

The driver of the car that was stationary on the side of the road told Virgin Islands News Online that he noticed a Police car turn right off the road after coming from the direction of East End and that the other Police vehicle attempted to do same when it was hit. The left front light of the car (Subaru) was damaged.

The driver of the Montero complained of pains in his left knee and was encouraged by the lawmen to visit the hospital.

One injured as car rolls off road in Skelton Hill

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, a female driver was reportedly injured when her car rolled off the road at Skelton Hill.

It is not clear how the vehicle ended off the road but it fell some five feet, taking a portion of guard rail with it before hitting the roof of a house below and a retaining wall where it remains.

The extent of the woman’s injuries is unknown.

You obviously did not read the article. The police turned right, which means he crossed over the other lane in front of the vehicle that was heading to the east. The police vehicle was dead wrong.
