Police investigating armed robbery @ Purcell Estate store

PURCELL ESTATE, Tortola, VI - Officers of the Criminal Investigations Department are investigating a reported robbery of a store in the building at the entrance of the Purcell Estate Road near Pasea, on Thursday afternoon, June 8, 2023.

Police in a release said initial inquiries indicate that around 4:45 pm, one armed masked male entered the establishment demanded money, and left with the store’s proceeds along a gold chain from the neck of an employee.

The release added that the male robber was then joined by another masked male who then both fled the scene on foot in the direction of Davis Funeral Home.

The police are asking that persons who may have seen any suspicious behavior in the area or have information on the identity of the perpetrators can confidentially call CrimeStoppers at 800-8477 800-(TIPS) or overseas call 1-284-800-8477 with the relevant information.

      If dope selling is down the dope sellers just have to find other means of making money, let’s say finding a 9-5 like we normal folks do. Dope slowing down because medical marijuana is running the show. People is spending the money on medical marijuana because it is safer. These days regular marijuana is laced with to many other stuff.

    The Uk & Governor's plans starting to work perfectly. They will keep having us fight each other. They will keep forcing laws and policies which will stiffle the economy but they will look like their hands are clean. I do not condone crime but all their actions behind the scene will push crime to go up which is playing right in their hands.

    Its not a stupid comment. The governor has had responsibility for decades of police & security implementation in the BVI. Where we are is a direct status report on the job.

    We dont need a COI on the police & gov's office to see they are not in tune with residents way of life and it is leading to an increase of crime.

    This down turn is purely their making along with the restriction to legal cannabis as a revenue stream. And yes the cannabis on the street is highly laced these days with god knows what but is is highly addictive.

    Not to mention they wanted to kill financial services, if you are well paided in that industry be aware that non-local politicians want to put an end to it & not for anyone of our benefit.

    opportunities must steadily be added not removed.

    Robbery is wrong but we can we ask at the same time why this person felt so desperate in our community?

    Dem man robbing to get paper for (in no exact order):

    Drugs and alcohol
    Pay rent/bills owed
    Need for money to pay court case
    Need to pay legal bill
    Owed daycare or ???? tax
    Car/scooter broken down and need repaired
    Recently departed from Hyatt HMP Balo and no J.O.B.
    Frequent the establishment and saw the opportunity as they ain’t got no personal defense (12g buckshot)….

    When will the law allow personal protection (guns)…? Our neighbors (USVI) and the other Caribbean islands alllow businesses to have licenses to arm themselves; why not here..?!?! We law abiding citizens must die at the hands of these hardened criminals and hope the LAW gets it resolved quickly????
