ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Reiterating that the contents and packaging of the now controversial ‘Police in Paradise’ leaked video was inappropriate and should not have entered the public domain, Governor John J. Rankin, CMG has disclosed that the video producers had some consultations with the BVI Tourism Board according to his knowledge.

Governor Rankin made the revelations during a press conference yesterday, July 1, 2022, alongside the Premier and Minister of Finance, Dr Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7).

Regarding filming, he said, “my understanding is that there was some consultation with the tourism board, but I don’t have the exact details of that.”

The Governor added, “Obviously, if any crimes were committed then that should be investigated properly but I’ve got no evidence to believe that is the case.”

BVITB prepare to counter video - Director Clive McCoy

Ahead of the disclosure by the Governor, BVI Tourist Board (BVITB) Director Clive McCoy in an interview with ZBVI Radio said the video has hampered the work the Tourism Board has done so far, and that his agency was preparing to counter any negative effects of the leaked video.

Calling the video ‘grotesque’, Mr McCoy added his team is now monitoring the international impact of the video.

Meanwhile, Premier Wheatley in a June 27, 2022, statement also called the video one that has unsettled many persons in the local and business community, because of its ‘highly distorted’ portrayal of the VI, which gives the impression that the island is an unsafe tourist destination infested with drugs and crime.

The Premier was quick to discredit the video and made it clear that its portrayal was not a true representation of the VI.

    1) what consultations did the producers have with the tourist board and who did they consult with. 2) what consultations did the producers have with the governor or anyone else on his behalf. 3) does the governor denounce the video as grotesque or not.

They all want to March because the (UK) who is the owner of the BVI wants to instate direct rule. It's there place they can do what they want. Now this video comes out which portraits the BVI as a lawless place for drugs and crime and the thing is thing was headed by the commissioner of police who's in charge of security of the BVI. You have the head of security calling down the country where he suppose to be policing and NOBODY organized a March to have him removed for his post or anything like that. The People of the BVI are weak won't March for anything but will fall everything. So go ahead and organized your protests for those that were and are raping off this place.

The UK is on folding it’s plan day by day.
Divide and conquer is the game.
They are in control and the present government has to agree with everything the governor ask to do.
The next move is to remove the head of customs.

It’s fine and dandy for the Commissioner of Police (CoP) to apologize, but it’s too little too late. The video is already out there and the harm has been done. The proper thing to do is either resign or the Governor should relieve him of his position. But, unfortunately that won’t happen. If the CoP was a person of color I bet that the Governor would have already hauled him on the carpet and sacked him. This is the kind of s€+t that one has to put up with. When are we going to get rid of the shackles?? When will we be free?? I CRY FOR MY BELOVED COUNTRY .

Too many white lies. Why the COP choose to apologize with a lie? And why is HE compounding that lie with this crap. This video was not made for any recruitment purpose but was made as part of the Police in Paradise series and MARK had the starring role. Now that light was shown on his mal-intentions he is playing victim. MARK needs to come clean and JOHN needs to ensure that he does. Not everyone is going to accept your BS as GOSPEL.
When it is not in their favour it is labelled leaking; when it is in their favour it is labelled whistle blowing.

regardless of who leaked the video the question is did the Bvi Tourist board film comission approve their application to film that garbage? did they even go through the process of making an application? or does the laws of the Virgin islands not apply to UK officials. I would like to see the approval from tourists board for this production, it is after all the law. if that cant be provided the commissioner of police and anyoneelse involved should be sent home. and Mr. Rankin, we are not fooled by the utter gobshitrubish that comes out of your mouth. you are worse than gus you just come wrapped in a smile .

@,@intresting- it's not my job to educate you or anyone else for that matter on the laws and policies that govern the virgin islands concidering they are public records , it's not my job to tell you that anyone entering the territory to film anything for commercial use has to go through the film comission, nor is it my job to tell you that they also have to apply for temporary work permits as well. None of which were done. So go read a book from talking piss.

All I see is that there I an agenda to remove the Governor and the Top cop. You will put your own Top Cop so when your children commit their crime it will go unpunished . You speak about colonialism yet we have modern day slavery rampant on these islands. What make you think you are different than the UK I can only say some of the content in the video is not good but let's see Jamaica worst crimes and tourist flocking Jamaica.
