CANE GARDEN BAY, Tortola, VI- Police have conducted a major cocaine bust in Cane Garden Bay, on the main island of Tortola. One person has been taken into custody.

The operation was reportedly carried out around 7:00 pm on Saturday, March 6, 2021, according to reports reaching our newsroom.

Sources close to the operation told our newsroom that the individual arrested was approached while at a gas station in Cane Garden Bay.

A search conducted of his taxi bus allegedly led to the discovery of a number of duffle bags containing blocks of cocaine, sums of cash and other 'items of interest’.

½ ton cocaine

The cocaine is said to weigh some ½ ton.

The reports were confirmed by Commissioner of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Michael B. Matthews.

“I can confirm an RVIPF planned covert operation seized over half a ton of cocaine yesterday evening - one person arrested and investigation very much live. This another major seizure against organised crime attempting to operate within the territory,” Mr Matthews told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO).

Mr Matthews also shared information about the drug bust on his Twitter page.

“Another major seizure here overnight - an RVIPF planned operation has netted over half ton of Cocaine and offenders in custody. This follows on the heels of 259 kilos seized in January and 2.3 tons last November - RVIPF targeting organised criminality. #keepingourcommunitiessafe,” Mr Matthews tweeted.

everyone who owns triple engine CC and go fast boats that cost in excess of $200,000 need to be looked at, as no working man can afford a boat like that just to sit and only run once a month.
But we know where they get their money so do something about it, think another guy caught with a gun, why? Triple engine "fishing" boat pmsl set on fire...

These people wanna keep the life they become accustomed by any means necessary. Like come on? Half a ton and u stopping for gas. I wouldn’t be surprised he buss a lil like before going gas station. We need to consider legislation to introduce unexplained wealth orders. Unexplained wealth orders allow the police to obtain a Court order requiring a person who has valuable assets without an obvious source of income or funds to account for their purchase to provide the details of their legitimate source of wealth. If the person is unable to refuses to do so, the assets are subject to confiscation.

THEY WILL SNIFF OUT THE TRAP HOUSES IN TORTOLA. PLENTY OF PEOPLE IN THE BVI IS MAKING THEIR MONIES BY LETTING THE DRUG DEALERS STASH THEIR DRUGS IN THEIR HOMES, WE GOT OUR EYES ON TWO MOTHERS THAT HAVE YOUNG CHILDREN WHO IS STASHING DRUGS IN THE SAME HOUSE THAT THEIR CHILDREN IS LIVING IN FOR MONEY. SUPPOSE THOSE YOUNG CHILDREN FIND THE STASH AND INJEST SOME OF THE DRUGS. THERE IS PLENTY OF UNDERCOVER AGENTS ON THE ISLAND WATCHING AND TAKING NOTES. YOU HAVE TO LET CRIMINALS THINK THEY ARE SMART TO OUTSMART THEMSELVES.

@crime scene clearly you don't know how the system works. One has to be formally CHARGED before the release of any information about the investigation and arrest. Clealy they haven't laid any charges as yet!

The person has to be charged for names to be published. Just like whenever there is a death, the next if kin has to be informed before the name is released. We just have a lot of people taking upon themselves to unofficially release information.

What is so stupid is people can’t watch black man own property without their minds jumping to conclusions.

Yet when other races roll through with their mega yatches, and money to order you a dinner of lobster on a whim no one wonders a thing.

As it should be. The man in question, a white man said his people were once slaves. I don’t think they had the same type of slavery but kept it to myself. How one goes from slave to rich... Not my business.

That’s our story as a nation.

Some people have worked hard and sold or leveraged their inheritance for what they own. Its not your business.

Honestly such a mentality of racial profiling in the comments. While a bad apples exist world wide. That is the kind of thinking to throw us back as a society.

Years ago in America a black man with a fancy car would have been wise to park it up because to the systematically racist officer it must be stolen.

If a man works the marketway at night and you don’t see him, do you come and ask in the day how it is that can afforded to be not homeless because you never see him working???

He replies that you didnt hire him and it’s none of your business. Then you, jumping to conclusions, go report his ‘unexplained’ wealth

    Well sah that’s messed up.

I move jobs often people don’t know where I work I don’t have fancy cars boats or any of that but i can see some people have unsavory thoughts in mind.

Are we supposed to live in fear of wasting time being investigated after telling people to mind their business???

Will an upstanding person be compensated for the trouble of revealing their private information??

How will ‘unexplained wealth’ legislation benefit the community? Will it be applied to visitors? Luxury properties the type black people aren’t supposed to be able to own, visiting mega yatches???

To me it seems people want racial profiling legislation and not the good kind. Not unexplained wealth from the tone of the comments.

I think some people come here where they imagined to be poor and wonder how it is these people have nice houses on the hills.

A lot of people are still paying the banks, but that’s not your business so y’all need to stop being envious.
