KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) led by Prime Minister Andrew M. Holness was returned to office with a landslide victory in the General Elections in Jamaica on September 3, 2020.

The JLP won 49 seats compared to 14 by the People’s National Party (PNP) led by Dr David D. Phillips.

Premier of the Virgin Islands, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) is among the first regional leaders to congratulate PM Holness.

"Congratulations to Hon. Andrew Holness and the JLP in Jamaica on their victory at the polls as they retain being the government. GOD'S BLESSINGS be upon them as they do the WILL of GOD for the people of Jamaica," Hon Fahie's message read.

The victory for the JLP was also significant for the number of big PNP scalps taken, among them Peter Bunting in Manchester Central, Wykeham McNeill in Westmoreland Western, Luther Buchanan in Westmoreland Eastern, and Fenton Ferguson in St Thomas Eastern.

Last night Holness, who in July this year marked his 48th birthday, acknowledged the massive margin of victory and pledged that his Administration would be responsible in the management of the power given to it by Jamaican electors, according to Jamaica Observer.

No victimisation

Addressing journalists during a press conference at the party's Belmont Road headquarters in St Andrew, Holness said there should be no victimisation, retribution or malice in how the JLP moved forward as it relates to Jamaicans who supported the PNP.

Stating that the Government was very cautious in its approach to receiving the overwhelming majority, Holness said: “It must never be that the Government takes on any characteristic of arrogance. It must never be that this Government takes the people for granted.”

Holness also said he had no intention of dismissing as a spectre the allegations of corruption that shadowed his Administration in its previous stint.

A Labour Party with right of center views actually representing the working man - all working people should support right of center views (except civil servants who understandably are left of center because they don’t want reform, efficiency or meaningful appraisals - and as suckers at the breast of the state are dependent upon others earning and paying taxes). Good result in Jamaica.
