Plans still alive for Isabella Morris Primary School to be rebuilt- Hon Sharie B. de Castro
Hon de Castro made this announcement during an appearance on Virgin Islands Voice, which aired on various media platforms, including Facebook, on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
The minister stated, "I'm a proud alumnus of the Isabella Morris Primary School's Class of 2002. Big up to my class, and I'm very excited to move forward with the repositioning of that school. It is something that we intend to do in terms of our future infrastructure works, but that school has not come back since the Hurricanes."
According to a Virgin Islands News online article dated January 14, 2020, it was reported that the hurricane-damaged Isabella Morris Primary School in Carrot Bay would be rebuilt by a donor, as stated by then Premier Andrew A. Fahie (R1). While this news was promising, the then Premier did not disclose the name of the donor.
Additionally, former Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith mentioned that there were plans by his administration to establish a junior high school at the facility in Carrot Bay.
However, Smith’s National Democratic Party (NDP) government faced a significant defeat in the general elections held on February 25, 2019.
'We are almost there'
While speculation continues among Virgin Islanders, the education minister assured Virgin Islanders that the hurricane-damaged Isabella Morris Primary School will be repositioned.
She further stated, ’’So those would be all the schools that are left, so we are almost there.’’
The ministry embarked on major infrastructural work on several school buildings across the Virgin Islands during the summer break, in preparation for the 2025-2026 academic year.
At least two public schools damaged by the hurricanes in September 2017 have been rebuilt by donors: Enis Adams Primary School, which was completely rebuilt from scratch, and Bregado Flax Educational Centre on Virgin Gorda.

some what shameful social damages from 2017 still can’t get corrected but the politicians running all over the Globe
if the funds were already allocated! Where? Why?
Honoring one of our local educators by rebuilding a school that bears her name I am all for. BUT have you looked at the primary school population of the Carrot Bay area? There is already a primary school is the first district that needs serious repairing even a new and modern building.
It makes better sense to put that money into building a cafeteria at the ESHS where children can actually sit and eat comfortably than having to eat in classroom where they will soon be told they can't do that anymore due to the mess some may leave behind.
Why not built a or hall where assembly and other school meetings can be kept instead of sitting under a hot tent. The ESHS campus is still in a deplorable state, use the money to fix that.
Better yet rebuild the MIGHTY SCATLIFE I am sure majority of the population would agree with that plan.
