LONG LOOK, Tortola, VI- Under the slogan ‘We Matter Too’, former Director of Water and Sewerage Department (W&SD) Mrs Perline R. Scatliffe-Leonard will be launching her elections campaign at The Stickit in Long Look from 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 25, 2023.

It was on February 8, 2023, that Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard declared her candidacy as an Independent, contesting the seat for the 7th District in the upcoming 2023 Virgin Islands’ general election.

According to a press release on February 18, 2023, Scatliffe-Leonard recognises the people of the Seventh District require dedicated, caring, representation, committed to community building and empowerment.

‘We matter too’

It said it is “no wonder” Scatliffe-Leonard has adopted the slogan ‘We Matter Too’.

“My message is simple, the people of the Seventh District matter too! For far too long this District has not received the attention it deserves. My focus will be to promote programs, productivity, progress, people empowerment,  pride, and prosperity within a cohesive community and through a government that works in and for the best interest of the people. I believe I can inspire a unified vision of progress and prosperity within the 7th District and the Territory,” Scatliffe-Leonard stated.

She also presented a list of “changes” she wishes to inspire within the 7the District Community:

• Regular consultation with the community

• Activities and better care of our elderly and socially challenged individuals

• Youth development and mentorship programs

• Safe district initiative in partnership with Royal Virgin Islands Police Force

• Promotion of family and community activities that fosters inclusion of all persons living in the district

• Preservation and promotion of our heritage and culture

• Support and encouragement of agriculture, backyard farming, and fisherfolks

• District infrastructure enhancement, coordination of projects, and beautification

• Increase commerce opportunities, including participation in Tourism

• Promotion of private/public partnerships.

Host of the Honestly Speaking radio show Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline had named Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard as one of several women he considered to be good political candidates worthy of consideration for the 2023 general elections in the [British] Virgin Islands.

…. Then keep your cows if the woman’s property . It’s that simple. … and I don’t even know her personally. I do know these cows wonder into peoples yard and literally eat down everything. Fruit tress, flower tress … everything! So yeah keep your cows out of people’s property. You don’t know how long people waited to reap the benefits then to have it all destroyed within mins. ????????????????

The kitchen to hot for you. In other words, you are not liked by many people. Without a party backup, your chance of a win is slim, Mrs Perline R. Scattlife Leonard.

Allowed me to help you to better understand how the majority of voter in the BVI think. Read on closely Mrs Perline R. Leonard. In BVI politics, people by far vote for candidate that they like personally, and also for those they expect to benefit from, mainly financially, and in other ways.
You had your time. In many and mine opinion, you shouldn't persue this particular ambitious position, just because there are needs, and you are an ambitious person. Ambition is not the same a qualification. But if you still chose to continue doing what you have set out to do, I will be very much surprise, if you were to win a seat in the Legislative body.

The BVI like its other regional Anglophone sister countries operates on the Westminister system which is based on the party system. The party system is not ideal but it is the current system. The encumbent party determines what, how, when, where, etc projects get done. In a close election, a successful independent candidate can be a deal maker. Nevertheless, an independent candidate in the HOA success and effectiveness in bringing home the ‘corned’ pork is challenging. The choice is up to the voter. A candidate’s knowledge, education, experience, performance, talent, attitude, record, etc matters. Mrs Scatliffe-Leonard has to explain her time as leader of Water and Sewage, ie, challenges, if any, which limited her effectiveness. She was listed as the Department Head so one would tend to tag her with any success or failure. If she were in essence just a figure head she needs to explain that to the voters. Doing so will undoubtedly be a sensitive and challenging issue. Politicians have to make though decisions. And don’t tell us you are not a politcian. If you are in politics, you are a politician. Let’s stop that nonsense. If you are the sea swimming, you are a swimmer ; you may not be a good swimmer but you are a good swimmer.

The reason this woman has to run as an independent is that nobody nowhere wants to work with her. I'm telling you she is fake and not sincere. Will throw you under the bus in a second to elevate herself. If you don't believe me check what she saying about the Ministry she was working under. It's never her fault ever.
