People will decide if I continue seeking political office- Zoe Walcott- McMillan
According to Walcott-McMillan, it was the people that put her forward to seek to represent them at the elections she has contested before and they still have the deciding power over her.
She also said the final say would rest with the party, basically indicating that she would like to continue running on the VIP slate. She said in the meantime persons can still expect the same Zoe Walcott- McMillan, who has always made herself available to the people and the Territory in whatever capacity she can assist.
Walcott-McMillan was the second highest vote getter of the Virgin Islands Party At Large candidates and 6th of the record total 16 candidates that contested the General Elections in the Virgin Islands.
She mustered up 3,335 with Irene Penn-O’Neal getting 3,764 votes, Keith L. Flax 2,958 and Vernon Elroy Malone 2,960 votes.
The National Democratic Party (NDP) won all four of the At Large seats with the now Premier Dr. Daniel Orlando Smith getting a whopping 5,081 votes, which is the highest ever by any candidate in the history of the Virgin Islands General Elections.
Myron Vernal Walwyn received 4,605 votes, Ronnie W. Skelton 4,475 and Archibald Clarence Christian 4,205 votes. The NDP won 9 district seats while the VIP retained 4.
Meanwhile, Walcott-McMillan said the VIP will have to regroup and restructure. “We are going to do our own assessments internally in terms of what the perceived issues are and work out whatever issues we have within the party,” McMillan told Virgin Islands News Online.
She also expressed appreciation to all those who voted for her and also those who supported her during her campaign including her family and the many young people “who were chanting we voting Zoe and basically trying to make their voices heard”.
