People of VI will be deeply saddened by Queen’s passing- Governor Rankin
Referencing a statement from Buckingham Palace on the death, the Governor this afternoon said, “I know the people of the British Virgin Islands will be deeply saddened by this news and will join me in a period of mourning for Her Majesty The Queen. Our thoughts are with the Royal Family at this difficult time.”
Buckingham palace in an announcement this afternoon said, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
The Governor added that Her Majesty gave exemplary and loyal service throughout her life, she was a friend to the Virgin Islands having visited twice.

The Queen visited the VI 1966 arriving on the Royal Yacht Britannia which was anchored in Road Harbour, and returned once more in 1977 when she laid the foundation stone for a new wing of Peebles Hospital he said.
“We will remember her with great fondness and respect. Arrangements will be made both online and in person for those wishing to offer condolences and further announcements will made in due course,” Governor Rankin added.
Meanwhile, the Governor’s statement indicated that the Condolence books will be available online at the www.royal.uk website and they will be opening a book of condolence on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Old Government House Museum.
The Book will be opened to the public from 11am-3pm on Friday from 10:00hrs- 15:00hrs and on Saturday, September 10, 2022, and then each day from Monday, September 12, 2022, from 10:00hrs until 3:00hr until the funeral of The Queen.
He said further arrangements will be made in due course.

The government of the day, howsoever embattled with the COI, has not exactly shown its dignity either in contrast with so many other proud territories and nations who share many of our historic experiences. This Queen’s 70 years in service of the UK, its territories and the Commonwealth, including getting hands on during a World War, has shown immense progress and contrast to the times of her predecessors.
