GREAT HARBOUR, Jost van Dyke, VI- The party island, Jost van Dyke, seems to be living up to its reputation even in the midst of rising deaths and a COVID-19 spike in the Virgin Islands (VI).

Minister for Transportation, Works and Utilities Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5) said a video being circulated shows partygoers defying the mandated protocols.

“I urge all the party-goers to adhere to the social distancing guidelines,” he said on VIP Let’s Talk aired on Tuesday, July 27 2021, on 780 AM ZBVI and streamed live on Facebook.

“I saw a video over on Jost van Dyke on Sunday where persons were still partying, it seems like no adherence to the protocols that have been in place. So I just want to urge persons to be mindful that COVID-19 is present, COVID-19 has killed many persons in our communities, and we wanna make sure that the guidelines and the protocols that are put in place, that they are adhered to,” Minister Rymer said.

COVID-19 is no joke!

“We encourage persons to practice social distancing; we encourage persons to vaccinate, we encourage persons to also boost their immune system and to also realize COVID-19 is no joke,” Honourable Rymer added.

The VI now has 584 active cases and 31 deaths because of COVID-19.

and that is why all the tourists go there, they can get served drinks on the beach, no masks and loud music to party and enjoy their holidays and NO COVID OFFICERS DOING THEIR JOBS and closing down the bars/restaurants and fines taking all their profits becuase they are on other islands , its time that everyone either opens and if the vaccinated get ill and die it is their choice as the vaccinated have chose to vaccinate, if they die they die as the country is dying.

Some bars, camp ground and guest house ownners are against the vaccine and have no problem voicing their opinión on the community board. So, I am not surprised

Tortola is the problem, 1 suspected case and they shut down JVD, 5 cases imported from Tortola and they shut down Anegada, so who needs policing?

Encouragement and mindfulness, especially from a representative of a government that we have lost all faith in is pointless. Time for the police to do their job and enforce the law.

There is always going to be a problem with people and their freedoms. Just focus on getting them vaccinated and encourage them to build their immune system. Stop complaining and be a gatekeeper. observe their habits and build the safety around them without directly taking away their freedoms.
  • Good report Hon. Kye, Rymer (DR#5) you are doing your part well. (28/07/2021, 09:42) Like (3) Dislike (3) Reply

Urge all you want. Until the government garners the testicular fortitude to actually police and punish those who do not adhere to the rules, it will not stop Steups!

Cane Garden Bay Beach as well. When I look down at the Beach from my home, I could have sworn it was a carnival on the beach. We have to do better.

We have a serious problem how is it everyone must obey the protocols and the tourist here walking up and down with out mask. This is a fact I personally had to stop a few days ago and ask a group walking all around the town to please wear their mask.

This is the issue! There are people that refuse to grow up and the people that are responsible for policing them refuse to do it (police and Covid task force). Bars are still open. Some restaurants/bars are still open. No one wants to offend the partygoers and bar hoppers. This is the issue that we must address.

And what about the Puerto Rican navy that is taking over Savannah Bay? How can locals enjoy a quiet holiday with those sport fishing boats all there? Am I to believe they are all vaccinated and legally registered to be in BVI?
