Partnerships seen as key for RVIPF security expo - Ag. Commissioner
This was among some of the reasons that prompted the RVIPF to host a Security Expo today, July 23, 2013 at the Noel Lloyd Positive Action Movement Park. The Expo featured a number of private security firms in addition members of the telecommunications and marine industry.
“I’m a great believer that the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force, when it comes to preventing and reducing crime, needs to work in partnership,” Morris stated.
Carris Penn of LIME BVI said the company was pushing its newly introduced vehicle tracking device, much like many of the other companies with products on display today.
Vincent ‘Tony’ Jardine, LIME’s Government Account Manager, related the company’s research discovered a need for the tracking device and said this also came from a maintenance aspect as well. LIME has partnered with a local company, Carib GPS in introducing the device to the local market.
“Because the customers didn’t have anybody who’s doing it on a large level, LIME decided to take on that task so that we could bring it to the community on a larger base,” Jardine said.
He stated that the device was not limited to vehicles but was also capable of being used on boats as well. The devices were available on local, regional and International plans.
S&D Security and Alarm Systems also had a number of interesting security devices on display, including a device named Rex that barked upon the detection of intruders. Carlon Louie of S&D said the company also offered security cameras and building access, house and vehicular alarm devices.
Dwight Lake of Tri-Star Security said his company also had an assortment of tracking devices for the elderly such as watches and necklaces in addition to vehicle tracking devices and alarming systems for homes or businesses.
The company also provides services such as static security, money in transit and counterfeit currency identification among others.
Mr Morris noted that in terms of property thefts, it was noted that there were a lot of mobile phone, laptop and other electronic devices stolen. He described these as opportunist crimes.
