BAUGHERS BAY, Tortola, VI – ‘Honestly Speaking’ radio show host Mr Claude O. Skelton-Cline has called on parents of students attending public schools in the Virgin Islands to voice their concerns over schools not operating at full capacity even as new research shows schools can open with less than 6 feet of social distancing requirements.

‘We need to get vaccinated, teachers, all of the personnel who service the school need to get vaccinated, we are doing a disservice to our children in the public schools,” he said on the March 25, 2021, edition of the Honestly Speaking radio show.

Private schools are operational - Skelton-Cline

“Parents you need to be upset, you need to become mad… for why your children are not in school on a full-time basis,” he said.

Skelton-Cline pointed out that private schools in the VI have been operating under the Ministry of Education with responsibility for public education.

“I am unapologetic on this subject of the education of our children, we are failing a generation. Most of our students don’t have the support systems in place,” he said regarding remote education.

Skelton-Cline further tasked the government to make preparations to utilise the summer months for additional schooling, to make up for time lost as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We need to be preparing, that summer won’t be summer per normal, these summer months need to be spent where our children are in school,” he said.

Adjusting to the new normal

According to the man of the cloth, the world has changed so authorities need to be planning for the future and not hoping for things to return to normal.

Skelton-Cline’s comment came on the heels of a new study that suggest social distancing in learning institutions can be achieved with less than 6 feet of space when using protocols like masks.

The study, published in Clinical Infectious Diseases, suggests that 3 feet may be just as effective as 6 feet when it comes to safe physical distancing and controlling the spread of COVID-19 among both primary and secondary students and staff.

Claude not turning on the VIP. Yo mad! He turning on the people who refusing the vaccine. Look here!! Cayman's students, public and private, in school since last September without vaccines. Teachers are teaching and students are learning unmasked and unvaccinated. In fact, no masks are required anywhere since August 2020. They live free simply because there were no COVID community cases for three months straight. It is working. Get with the program. No campaign is changing anybody's mind.

You sir & the Minister of Education, lead by example, take the vaccine not saline, the Covid vaccine and then the rest of us will follow! I am so tired of people projecting their personal beliefs and agendas onto the rest of us! PS a little bird chirping saying a Cr@663 in the barrel tipped to be the new CEO, but if the Minister of Education appreciates his teachers he would dive into the personal agenda behind their move! Teachers leaving and more will leave if this is true! No One kiss @ss in 2021 ... they are in for a rude awakening!

would rather not have to take a vaccine at all, but would grin teeth and take any other than the Astra. So, if the Gov wants herd immunity, it should give the public more than one choice.

What’s this man’s point? I think that he is just blowing hot air. If he is truly concerned about our students, maybe he should put his money where his big mouth is. He can volunteer to tutor some students or even sponsor tutoring for at-risk students. He can even sponsor a school. After all, he is more than likely overpaid at the expense of taxpayers.

We the parents been upset that there is no full day school... but not upset enough to take the vaccine for them to be in full day school... I think y’all need to stop playing with the children education by making this a thing of parents and teachers not wanting the vaccine.. it is our personal choice.. put the children in school damn it and we will take the vaccine when we choose to if we want to!!!!!!!

Whether we vacinate or not should not be a reason for keep kids out of school. The vaccine pushers are making it look like teachers don't want school to be open in full thats a lie from the pit of hell. Open school and stop bullying people to take your poison into their bodies. If I take it and die is the Government liable? What will happen to my children. Some of us do not feel like it is safe to take...we have so much other health issues...NO VACCINE SO COME GOOD WITH YOUR INVALID THREATS. ALL OUR RIGHTS OUT THE DOOR. I DO NOT BELIEVE IN A VACCINE THAT DOES NOT GIVE 100% COVERAGE. Educate me.
