Paraquita Bay Road reopens

Dean H. Greenaway, aka 'The Sportsman', a communication specialist for the Ministry of Communication and Works, gave an update during a short video on Facebook that vehicular access has been restored in the area.
He stated, "The Ministry of Communication and Works is advising that with the recent completion of the work between Bouncer’s Bar and the college, the south coast road is now open for vehicular traffic."
Residents have complained about the length of time the road project has been ongoing and the number of times the road has been closed completely to vehicular traffic.
The project
The Government of the Virgin Islands awarded a contract to Northam Construction for a project totalling $2,386,015.99 USD.
This project involved the construction of 3,813 linear feet of concrete roadway from Paraquita Bay to Hodge's Creek.
The scope of work includes civil engineering tasks and asphalt resurfacing of the road as part of ongoing efforts to maintain and enhance public infrastructure.
The project included excavation of the existing road, rebuilding the subbase, and resurfacing it with asphalt.
Residents are advised that the road can be navigated more safely and comfortably following these upgrades.

Hope they didn't get paid.
Only 2 years $2Million plus and the road is now worse than when they started.
At least it is open for Donkeys again, and those that want to trash their vehicles.
IMO, this project was a textbook example of poor planing, poor project management, poor contract management, etc..What the contractor put his/her depth? Moreover, looks can be deceiving and a picture is worth a 1000 words. The pic of the road in commentary looks unfinished, not aesthetically pleasing, etc.
The road has taken an enormously long time to get to this point but in a rush to diminish, dissipate some of the heat from the motoring public, did quality suffer? Was proper prep work and testing done on the subgrade, subbase, base, etc? The curing time of the concrete is concerning . After this lengthy timeframe should the concrete have been given a longer time to cure? Did the bare minimum curing time allowed before opening the road? Concrete, typically requires approximately 24-48 hours to set, 7 days to attain approximately 70% of its strength, 28 days to approach maximum strength, and continue to gain strength up 90+ days.
Motorists suffered and endured immensely much hardship in the sub performance of this reconstruction project. In planing road work, I borrowed from and suggest employing an alliteration quote from another blogger( E.Leonard) , ie, “Prior Proper Planning Prevent Piss Poor Performance. “ Be safe out there!! By the way, has all the drainage pipes, appurtances, etc put in place and functioning? If no why not? Is this putting the cart before the horse?
