While some locals may view this venture with a degree of skepticism, given their perception that no immediate local beneficiaries are apparent, and despite the absence of any barriers precluding local involvement, one must not hastily dismiss the underlying merit of this investment. These competitors, through their participation, will inevitably become emissaries of our cause, disseminating the message far and wide. Such organic promotion is not merely advertising—it is, in fact, the most efficacious kind. In the era of social media's omnipresent reach, the resonance of this positive exposure will grow exponentially, creating a multiplier effect that extends beyond traditional boundaries. Thus, this enterprise is sound not in spite of the initial skepticism, but because of the very mechanisms by which its success will be self-perpetuating.

Numerous studies have shown that the sailfish dies after release, thats 132 Blue Marlin for 'sport'. BVI waters wont stand that decimation for long.

they don't die however they are taken as prey by sharks as they are worn out from the fight of landing them

This event is important to the country. It gives us exposure on an international level. These guys do this as a sport and seriously do not need to be here. There are hundreds of tournaments around the world with prize winnings amounting to 10mil, so it should be something we can encourage. Just entering will run these competitors around 25k so its not really for everyone.

once the locals aren't involved in stuff the success is most times guaranteed. involve them, it become personal, political and badmind and end up a mess. No mention of ministers and government funding and district reps. They don't have to be in everything.

the mindsets of most of the BVI people and the mindsets of the majority of expatriates are much different thus the results between ventures by the 2 groups of people are very much different

If the fish are taken out by sharks that means they die.

We have to be aware of the double speak we are being fed. 132 blue marlins probably dead and wasted to show how humane and kind the sport fishing industry is by letting them go. Maybe they have too many heavy metals I dont know.

Some may survive but they are the lucky ones. Dont give us that bed time story.

Fishing is brutal. It can feed you but it is not fun for the fish. From the bait to the catch it is violent. That is what makes it a sport, the struggle of man vs fish. Unless that fish gets hooked in the lip I doubt it will survive and I doubt you can pull in a marlin without a hook sunk deep in it.

Smaller fish you can feel the nibble give it slack and quick pull to hook them in the lip.

Tell it like it is, maybe I am wrong about them dying, maybe not, out of sight out of mind... but they might as well take it home and eat it which is more respectful to the animal.

A big fish pulled in on a hook is painful & traumatic to the fish.

Im all for the event not the narrative. I think it is good as long as the premier isnt sponsoring it haha.

Fish on the hook, pull it in and suddenly your hurting it! The hook hurts the fish with it in or out. Reality. It can be a shock to see where meat comes from.

we have to respect the animal not say its released and all is well if that is not the truth.

Its not a local thing to bring drama the politicans know what they have to do, but choose to do what they want to do. That is why people get upset when the politicians splurge on foolishness.

ya right leh dem go ketch fish in dem own dam waters all dem doing is circulating back in dem own pockets the very same reparations inherited from dem great grand parents dat dem receive after losing da free labour after emancipation. Erywhere dem go, is death, destruction and tax evasion and we need to stop allowing dem to do wha dem want in we waters.
