ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – With an active COVID-19 case count of 273 as of July 3, 2021, following a sudden virus outbreak in the Virgin Islands, over 200 persons are currently in mandatory quarantine with hundreds more in voluntary self-isolation.

This is according to acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronald E. Georges in a Saturday, July 3, 2021, weekend update where he also indicated that local health authorities have proposed several guidelines to mitigate the spread of the virus.

Limit unnecessary movements

“Persons should voluntarily limit unnecessary movement and as far as possible stay at home. If you must go out, please strictly adhere to all public health measures in force regardless of your vaccination status,” the warning noted.

Individuals in the Virgin Islands are expected to adhere to universal mask-wearing, practice regular hand hygiene and adhere to social distancing guidelines of at least six feet from persons not from their household.

“Avoid all mass gathering events in particular indoor events. Where gatherings are happening there must be strict adherence to all public health measures,” he said.

The medical officer warned that if persons are not comfortable with what they see at gatherings, they should opt to leave and report any breaches to the organisers and authorities.

Businesses asked to Limit patrons @ premises

Further, guidelines directed to offices and businesses are that managers should ensure very strict adherence to measures already in place and should make considerations for further limiting of the number of patrons entering premises.

Dr Georges indicated that as testing rates increase, authorities are forecasting more increases in numbers of cases before the numbers level off.

“Members of the public are therefore advised to remain vigilant and heed the advice being given,” he said.

how can health authorities be confident folks will comply with their mandate and remain isolated

how can one self isolate while living in the same space as 10 other people(it is now normal to have a set of people living in a one bedroom apartment)

will folks instructed to self isolate have to spend time in jail or pay a fine if found in violation of the health department instructions

Fully Vaccinated people are more of a danger than unvaccinated because the symptom are less obvious, so this idea of not testing is not the right one.

Prople of the BVI , what is your expectation when those who has been injected with the COVID-19 vaccine is testing pisative? Well my expectations is that Corona will spread all over Tortola to those that aren't vaccinated from those that has been vaccinated. May God have mercy on us all especially those who are pregnant and those that has pre existing conditions

Frankly, you have it backwards. People who are unvaccinated are in the majority on this island. Corona virus will easily spread, and mutate, among the unvaccinated. Especially if unmasked and non-compliant with protection protocols.
UNBELIEVABLE NERVE OF PEOPLE BLAMING THIS CURRENT OUTBREAK ON VACCINATED PEOPLE!!
When it’s the unvaccinated people who have put the community at greatest risk of spreading Covid!

Aint no way the unvaccinated front line workers with the virus should get off easily..They were asked, they were begged and the selfishly refused..They need to lead by example, their profession require that they do that....They are not ready for the job that they signed up for...

I'm seeing pure dunce here. Last year the place got lock down for (1) active case. Now we have almost (400) active cases. Yet no lock down. Can someone please tell me who are the fools here? Certainly not my family and I.

The dunces are the unvaccinated who chose not to follow protocols to keep everyone safe. Now safety will come when enough people have tested positive and reached some kind of immunity. The only difference is it will be accompanied by a number of dead and people with long Covid - like the rest of the world before the vaccine was approved for use.

Why are new comers telling me “ I am fully vaccinated and don’t need a mask”? Customs needs to make one big announcement to people when they enter, that they still need a mask to enter ANY establishment. THANK YOU!

@FACTSCHECK, If you are so worried about the vaccinated person giving you COVID-19 and you are not vaccinated, get the vaccine to protect yourself as simple as that.

The current problem of the covid-19 spike is mostly so because of many stubborn, self-righteous, arrogsnt, ignorant, religious fanatics, and stupid indivisuals, that think that they know more about covid-19 virus than those that really do. Inspit of this fact, we are where we are. May by God guidiance He guide safely through these hard times. It is not wise to have the August festival activities this year. "Wisdom is more precious than silver and gold." Adhear to the protocol guidelines, strickly. Doing so will greatly help.

It is time to put some kind of measure in place no time to relax now. By tomorrow we should hear what the government plans are. May the great God of the universe give them insight and wisdom how to lead us in this critical moment. Mean while let's remain focus and fallow all protocols. Safety over economy that is key at this moment
