ESTATE BOVONI, St Thomas, USVI- Spring Stakes at Clinton E. Phipps Sr Racetrack in St Thomas, US Virgin Islands (USVI) today, Sunday, March 8, 2026, marks the kickoff of the 2026 racing season, and the 10th racecard since the racetrack redevelopment.

Race day also falls on International Women’s Day, making the celebration even more special.

“We’re excited to welcome fans back to the Clinton Phipps Sr Racetrack for what promises to be an outstanding day of racing. With an incredible lineup of jockeys, trainers, and horses, the competition will be strong from the first race to the last,” Chief Operating Officer of Southland Gaming VI, Shaine A. Gaspard told Virgin Islands News Online.

6 races

29 horses are slated to compete, and 6 races are carded for the day, with the feature race being a 1-mile and 40-yard battle among Class A and B horses, and featuring Fighting Back of Anegada, Grand Tower, Protector, Ice Road and Friar Laurence. The feature race will fetch a top purse of $16,000.

Anegada horse, Unsociable of Francis Racing Stables, will feature in Race 5, alongside Mundo Mix, Barrio San Jose and Friar Laurence A/E.

Unsociable, which gave Anegada its first win at the Festive Finish races in December 2025, will be blazing the track for more glory and the 15,000 prize.

Post time for Race 1 on Sunday is 1:15 PM, and the 6th and final race of the day is slated for a 5:15 PM start.

Hats & giveaways for women!

According to Mr Gaspard, it’s also fitting that International Women’s Day is also being celebrated today.

“It’s shaping up to be a great family-friendly event, and in celebration of the day we’ll also have hats and giveaways for the women, along with a hat contest as part of the festivities,” Gaspard said.

Gates open at 11:00 AM.

“We’re proud to see the facility continue to come alive with great racing and energy for the greater Virgin Islands community,” Gaspard added.
