TRELLIS BAY, Beef Island, VI- The Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2025 European Baseball Championships, Virgin Islander Ms Dariér Malone has said winning the MVP award and bringing home the championship are the results of hard work.

“Winning this award and being named Best Pitcher is an incredible honour, it feels surreal, honestly,” she said during a welcome ceremony at Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport on Beef Island on August 19, 2025, for herself and Ms Claury Scatliffe, who were part of the Great Britain Baseball National Women’s Team, which won the 2025 European Baseball Championships.

The championship was held in Czechia from August 14 to 17, 2025, and Ms Scatliffe was named Best Pitcher.

She added that what topped it all was hearing people who do not know them speak of their talent.

“It shows the hard work really and truly pays of, because people don’t know the time me and Claury spend on the field within this entire year since we got that call to come back up and play for the Great Britain National Team.”

Our names are etched in world history

Ms Malone added that she wants everyone to know that their names are not etched “just in history in the BVI, it’s history in the world”.

“Sometimes I don’t think we even realise how much of a big deal that is,” she continued.

The duo thanked their family, coaches, friends and loved ones for their love and support.

“Your belief in us made it possible to represent the Virgin Islands on the international stage and to achieve this milestone,” Ms Scatliffe said, adding she is grateful and proud to carry the Virgin Islands’ flag.

“Winning this award and being named Best Pitcher is an incredible honour. It feels surreal, honestly. I’ve worked hard, but to be recognised like this is humbling. I’m proud of what I’ve achieved and what we achieved together...I know this is just one step into a bigger journey.”

The two also thanked Honourable Sharie B. de Castro (AL), Minister for Education, Youth Affairs and Sports, for her support.

Their participation was made possible through grant funding from the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports.
