Ottley’s hat trick inspires Islanders
The game began with One Love having the majority of the play, but unable to create much in the way of clear cut chances.
Collin Green had the best two early chances with the first being a jinking run from just inside the Islanders half, beating two defenders and then unfortunate to see his dipping volley flash over the bar. The second came after the normally dependable Andy Davis lost the ball in midfield. Eric Campbell made his way to the bye line and sent over a perfect cross with Green rising unchallenged only to see his header go wide.
Down the other end two efforts by the Islanders flew high and wide, but the signs were that the Islanders were slowly getting a foothold on the game and beginning to control the midfield.
One Love though was still able to create some chances with Chevaughn Williams bringing the best out of Monty Butler who diverted a long range free kick just over the bar. From the resulting corner Green, again, was narrowly wide with a header.
Nano Ottley then calmed the Islanders nerves on the half hour mark and put them in ascendancy, with the game’s opening goal, a free kick from 20 yards out.
As he struck the ball, the “wall” split apart as some players jumped up in an attempted block, but the shot was low, came through the wall and gave Craig Sinclair no chance inside his near post.
As the first 45 petered out, Butler was called upon to react first to a cross from Williams with Green approaching fast, but the feeling through the steadily growing crowd was that the wind had been taken from One Love’s sails.
The momentum shifted decisively early in the second half when Amon Boscombe doubled the lead from a corner. Fitzroy Daley missed his header and the ball fell invitingly to Boscombe who made no mistake from just two yards out to bundle the ball home.
Ottley then turned the game into a one man show scoring his second direct from a corner, using the swirling wind to deceive the keeper and fire the ball into the top right corner, before Odain Reid brought Boscombe down in the box to earn his second yellow and an automatic red and conceding a penalty in the process.
Ottley calmly strode up, sent the keeper the wrong way and the celebrations began.
