Opposition leader pledges to work with Gov’t
Speaking in the House of Assembly (HOA) on May 10, 2012, Hon. O’Neal, who is also the 9th District Representative, stated that he will try his best to do whatever he can to assist.
“We have a lot of problems and we expect more problems because from what I have been reading of those countries in the G20, they are not going to rest until they wrestle the financial services away from us all and reduce it to such small amount that you would not bother with it. I can see that happening and we have got to be upfront and work hard, put our heads together and don’t give up. I know that all members will try their best because it is our bread and butter, along with tourism, the main sources of income that we have to protect,” he told members of the House.
Moreover, Hon. O’Neal, the Virgin Islands’ first Premier, thanked all the members of the House including the Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith and Deputy Premier Dr. Kedrick Pickering for visiting him at Peebles Hospital where he was a patient for three days.
“I want it recorded in the annals of this Honourable House the very fine treatment I received from you Madame Speaker, the Clerk of the House, the staff, including the Sergeant of Arms, during my short stay in the hospital here when many members of the House visited me. I believe some came when I was asleep and I didn’t see them.”
On Sunday November 27, 2011, Hon. O’Neal was admitted to the hospital after experiencing some discomfort, and following preliminary evaluations he remained there for a few days to undergo physiotherapy.
