PORT OF SPAIN, T&T – Opposition Leader Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL) is currently leading a delegation of Opposition Members to a Commonwealth Parliamentary Association UK workshop on the work of Public Accounts Committees and Parliamentary Trade Scrutiny being held in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago.

The workshop, which is running from February 27-29 2024, is being held in partnership with the Parliament of Trinidad & Tobago.

“Today is the first day of the Caribbean Regional Workshop-Public Accounts Committees and Trade Scrutiny through the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, held in Port of Spain, Trinidad. I am accompanied by the Leader of the Opposition, Hon. Ronnie W. Skelton, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Stacy Buddha Mather, Hon. Marlon A. The workshop is also bringing together committee chairs, members, and clerks from 12 legislatures across the region, including Trinidad and Tobago, Montserrat, Jamaica, St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, [British] Virgin Islands, Grenada, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Barbados, and Bermuda.

Discussions on how to scrutinise Gov't spending

The meeting will facilitate peer-to-peer discussions on how to enhance effective scrutiny of government spending and trade policy.

The aim of the workshop, according to a CPA UK press release, is to support learning among parliamentarians by delivering an informative programme with expert speakers in a collaborative exchange of knowledge.

“The workshop also provides parliamentarians space to build their network, and forge relationships that showcase the best practices for developing public financial scrutiny and trade,” the release detailed.

So all of them had to go? Since they are so concerned about travels why the rest of them did not turn it down and insist that the opposition leader alone should go? leopard don't change its spot, all of them is a bag of talk.
