CAPPOONS BAY, Tortola, VI- The 30th annual wreath-laying ceremony to honour the memory of the first Chief Minister, H. Lavity Stoutt, was held today, March 3, 2025, a public holiday.

The ceremony was done at the grave of Mr Stoutt at the Cappoons Bay Cemetery.

Joining the Premier Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) for the laying of wreaths was Opposition Leader Hon Ronnie W. Skelton (AL).

The wreath laid by Premier Wheatley was notably in territorial colours.

There were no remarks from both leaders at the short ceremony that was more about praise and thanksgiving.

Also laying a wreath was Peggy Stoutt, the daughter of the late H. Lavity Stoutt.

Leading out the praise and thanksgiving were Advent Lights, Praise Adonai, who also did a rendition of the Territorial Song, and BVI Consortium of Trumpeters.

H. Lavity Stoutt

The first Monday in March is declared a public holiday in celebration of the anniversary of the birthday of the Territory’s first Chief Minister. He died on May 14, 1995.

Well deserved honored of the late, and first Chief Minister, Hamilton Lavity Stoutt.
Good to know that that the real opposition leader, Hon Ronnie Skelton (not Hon. Myron Walwyn) did accompanied our Premier, Hon Natalio Wheatley, other political Ministers, the deceases family, Gospel singers that sang, supporters and friends were presented at
    the event.

When are you all going to stop the nonsense of honouring this dead man? It is thirty(30) years now. A holiday was already given, and the college is named after him. STOP honouring the dead! Are you all celebrating the KING of KINGS and the LORD OF LORDS who died and rose again and lives FOREVER MORE? STOP!! We appreciate the work that he has done but let it go now...

@God is watching- We are honoring the LEGACY OF HL Stoutt. We have accepted that he is dead, since it has been 30 yrs now. There is no need to point that out. Hopefully, one day, your legacy will also be honored and celebrated.

Agree that other leaders should be acknowledged

    Willard Wheatley:
Under his leadership this territory come out of Grant-In-Aid

    Cyril Romney:
contributed to cruise ship & airlines coming to the territory also the travel industry

    Ralph Oneal:
He looked out for the people because of him our children and grandchildren can move into great britain for education

It will be nice to big up our own people
