ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The Opposition Members have called for Premier and Minister of Finance Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) to immediately voluntarily resign or be removed from office.

The Opposition Members, at a press conference on May 1, 2022, also condemned the alleged actions of Premier Fahie, who was arrested on April 28, 2022, by the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) on charges related to conspiracy to import a controlled substance and money laundering.

‘Premier Fahie must resign now’- Opposition Leader

Leader of the Opposition Hon Marlon A. Penn (R8) said the Opposition had discussions with acting premier as early as Friday, April 29, 2022, after charges were officially filed, regarding the government's immediate disassociation from the premier and his actions and that they seek to have premier Fahie voluntarily resign or that steps were immediately taken to have him removed as premier of this territory of The Virgin Islands.

“Unfortunately, the results of those discussions have not been finalised 72 [48 hours] hours later. We respectfully encourage the acting premier to prioritise the interests of the territory at the most swiftly to insure the people of the Virgin Islands and our friends and supporters internationally by denouncing the alleged actions that have brought the reputation of the Virgin Islands into grave disrepute.”

Opposition condemns alleged actions of Hon Fahie

He also said Members of the Opposition strongly condemn the alleged actions of Premier Fahie and Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) Ms Oleanvine Pickering-Maynard and “similarly denounce the actions of any public official that knowingly and willingly disgraced the responsibilities with which they have been entrusted and oaths of office which they took.”

Hon Penn said the Opposition urges Premier Fahie to resign “out of respect” for the people of the Virgin Islands in recognition of the need of the territory to move on.

“The majority of Virgin Islanders are people of integrity and respect the laws of the territory. These reprehensible actions by a distinct minority are in nowhere representative of the views and actions of the people of the Virgin Islands.”

Efforts underway to get Premier’s resignation- Dr Wheatley

Meanwhile, Acting Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) said in an update last night, April 30, 2022, that efforts are underway to seek the resignation of Hon Fahie as Premier of the Virgin Islands as this would facilitate the smooth advancement of the process.

He also said the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Congress has voted him Chairman of the VIP and his colleagues have backed him to be the next Premier.

“All my elected colleagues and the government have expressed their support and confidence in me and we have all reiterated our commitment to working together in the best interests of the Virgin Islands and the Virgin Islands people,” Dr Wheatley said.

Dr Wheatley would need to be sworn in by Governor John J. Rankin, CMG, who will be at the helm of the VI if the UK suspends the VI’s Constitution and House of Assembly, as recommended by the Commission of Inquiry Report.

All human beings make mistakes, we just have to ask God to forgive him and to bring him to the BVI prison, even though he never wanted to know about us immigrates, I ask God for his family's conformity and that he give his tradition to his country because that way it will be easier for him and his family

Thats not going to happen - the USA will not let them leave - they have tapes of everything - see the statement by the DEA officer filed at Miami Court - Southern District. You have to ask yourself why was he and the Maynards so confident - was it because they had all done it before?

There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory, and our interests are in grave danger.
With the unbounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph

@lord o. the work of the country has to go on. He has to let go of the office he did not deserve in the first place as he is the property of the United States government. Stop talking nonsense, he is not our Premier anymore. He has put our country in a very dangerous position.

Under a lot of pressure? He put himself under the pressure. Allow him to relax a bit? This was not his first rodeo, he betrayed the people and the Country. He sold out the Country to drug cartels and illegal gun runners out of greed and you have the idiots that still talking BS about he was set up. One thing for sure one of them is going to start snitching out after going under some intense interrogation.

I watched the Opposition’s Press Conference. It was like some of them were completely unprepared and just winded it. At least they were all there. They were extremely somber and well, appeared shaken.

I am not surprise by the action of the members of the opposition. Their actions are like vultures looking for a prey to devour. As one of their colleagues from the House of Assembly has some difficulties with the law in another country, rather than sympathizing with the family they are fighting for power. The Premiership is a position that we don't know what will happen in the future.

Should the recommendation of direct rule be implemented, there will not be a premier, rather there will be an advisory body to administer the Territory. Let us wait and see the outcome. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. May God bless these beautiful Virgin Islands.

I applaud the opposition and stand with them - the Premier should resign if he had any decency at all - he aint getting out of that US jail and will probably have all his cash and property frozen - if they can find it.

I will advise all of you politicians who were connected with this embarrassing disgrace, to not go to the USA no matter how much they call you because you will be snatched up at the airport when you disembark. Not that you shouldn't get caught too, but because they have set the trap waiting for you fools.

I support direct rule for one year, not 2 years, after one year they should have things in order, Call fresh elections and hand our country over to us and have an over sight team for a year to ensure structures and procedures are maintained..Then they get out.....But we all know we cannot continue this way.. I know quite a few doing very well and change will affect their cash in take and the power they now enjoy, so, their opposition is natural and expected..but the best way forward is to let go for a short time, observed, learn.and get prepared...
