ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI – Operators Without Borders (OWB) has returned to the island to assist the Ministry of Communications and Works in improving the water situation across the territory.

The team is collaborating with the Water and Sewerage Department (W&SD) on the installation and proper maintenance techniques for Pressure Reducing Valves (PRVs).

Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Kye M. Rymer (R5), acknowledged the support from Operators Without Borders, specifically for their efforts in removing old valves and installing modern replacements.

Hon Rymer extends gratitude to OWB

In a Facebook post on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, the minister stated, "But I just want to acknowledge the operators without borders. We have some members of the team here. They've been here for a week. I think this would have been the fifth or the sixth PRV that they've done in that time."

Meanwhile, Jason Mank of Operators Without Borders emphasised that their organisation is a nonprofit and that all volunteers assist wherever help is needed. "We go to all the islands whenever they need some help from volunteers. Everybody who comes and works with us is a volunteer. We are 100% nonprofit. We come in and help, or we can, and offer specialty."

Mank added, "We have one of our specialists who will be coming back to recalibrate all the PRVs all across the island after we get them installed."

We need all of the help we can get, because what we have been doing isn't working with these old pipes that burst from pressure every time water is turned back on.

These should have been done long time but instead they preferred to dish out our tax money family, friends and lovers.

This problem will continue 50 years plus, a set of drunk men doing a set of nonsense and whoever manages them maybe the same

So Water/Sewage had no master plan for the distribution of water across the territory.
It appears there wasn't and no maintenance plan in place, only when something is broken we look into it but don't solved the problems, this is what it looks like to me.
Now some volunteers had to come here and tell us what our salary paid personnel should have known, and they will now be considered as saints. I commend them for stepping but it should never be this way.
Further there appears to be a problem with us black people in maintaining anything, this true in Africa and in other Caribbean islands as well. Maintenance and waste management are areas we need to improve on.

Thank you very much OWB for your assistance. An utter disgrace that our country can not manage to fix our water problems without outside help.

Feeling same about this water situation. Burst pipes everyday and road dug up everyday then burst pipes again. Water running in my property. When is this going to stop? Only God knows, between the road and the water situation I am hopeless. Each time I have to use the roads I now have to worry what condition it will be in.and worry if my house will be flooded by water coming from broken pipes..

@fran yep the pipe burst because of hydraulic transients, once the water is turn off and on that occurs, the have to get flywheel valves that opens incrementally to stop this action like concrete slamming in the pipes creating hydraulic transients.

What exactly is Hon. Rymer doing for the people again? You are just trying to assuage your conscience for voting for someone who has no clue. The only thing I see him soing is showing up every time, and I mean everyyyy time there is a photo opportunity or a camera and crew. That makes this Hollywood, not what the BVI need nor want. Well except for his voters who may be able to call him for personal help, everybody else can see clearly he is not delivering on his mandates. So say thanks all you want, the proof is there for all to see as we drive, bathe, travel all over Town looking for Government offices, stare at the three quarter done DDM building et cetera. So you choose to be blind all you want or wear those rose coloured glasses because he is a nice guy. Nice guys all over the place, but he was hired to do a job and he has failed, failed ah say. No matter his reasons, him and his finance minister are failures to this country.
