Online work permit system to be launched Monday, July 12, 2021

ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- The long-awaited online work permit system, which is expected to ease long lines and waiting times at the Department of Immigration, will be launched on Monday, July 12, 2021, at 2:00 pm.

This is according to a press release from Government Information Service (GIS) on July 9, 2021.

It said the online work permit system that will enhance the way that work permits are processed will be launched virtually and that employers, employees and all respective public servants that are normally involved in the work permit processing system will now have a platform that will streamline the process as well as reduce in person contact, which is essential in the midst of a global pandemic.

“Employers and employees will be able to track the progress of applications on the new platform, which will also notify users if they are missing any supporting documentation that would be needed to move their application forward.

User manual

“Additionally, a user manual for employers and employees is provided so that potential users of the Online Work Permit System can familiarise themselves with the material before the virtual launch on Monday,” GIS stated.

The user manual can be accessed via the link https://bvi.gov.vg/media-centre/online-work-permit-system-be-launched-virtually.

In a live update to the Territory back in May 3, 2020, Minister for Natural Resources, Labour and Immigration, Hon Vincent O. Wheatley (R9) had said the system was awaiting critical legislation to be passed.

“As Minister, I am keen on having this system put into place, as it will aid greatly, in the advancement of work permit processing, in this very critical time,” Hon Wheatley had said.

The Work Permit Online System is touted as one aspect of the overall transformation of the public service initiative.

    the bvi needs a system where finger prints and eye scans are standard methods of identifying applicants amount fake documents photo copy this and that is amazing: border security needs upgrading but that falls primarily under police and governor so no one making any noise or we wont have CoI or the year BVI have become a very lawless society but keep the faith

    Locals can't get work but yet work permits are still being issued. The number of people soliciting to live and work in the BVI needs to be capped especially during these difficult and strenuous period.

      Locals not applying for jobs advertised. We need to upskill our youth and train them to want to work. Then they earn the job with their skills and good attitude
