LOWER ESTATE, Tortola, VI- Persons residing in Lower Estate, Long Bush, Scatliffe Alley and surrounding areas will from today, December 19, 2022, have the convenience of shopping at a supermarket closer to home.

The OneMart Group will be opening a fully stocked supermarket in Lower Estate, next to Caribbean Cellars.

The opening ceremony is slated for 4:30pm and among those expected to give brief remarks are Premier and Minister of Finance Dr the Honourable Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) and Proprietor of OneMart Supermarkets, Honourable Mark H. Vanterpool (R4).

“We are aiming to put stores in communities, to serve the communities. It is not a big country, obviously, but people like to have easier shopping and we are putting convenience stories in people’s communities, and good quality stores also, it is not just a site store,” Hon Vanterpool told Virgin Islands News Online (VINO) last evening, December 18, 2022.

When our roving reporter visited the site in Lower Estate, employees could be seen stocking the shelves as well as decorating the store for the holidays.

According to Hon Vanterpool, the location will serve a large demographic and also help to ease the traffic congestion heading to its main store in Purcell Estate as well as other stores outside of Road Town.

‘We are positive about the BVI’s growth’- Hon Vanterpool

The Lower Estate store is the fourth for OneMart, as there are also OneMart supermarkets in Purcell Estate, Baughers Bay and East End.

The Baughers Bay location was opened on March 11, 2022, and the East End location on July 28, 2022.

“Like they would say in the stock market, I am very bullish on the BVI. I think the BVI has a great future, despite all of the issues happening around the world and even here in the BVI.

“I am confident that the BVI will go in a very positive direction in the next 10 years, so our group is investing in the BVI because we are positive about the BVI’s growth,” Hon Vanterpool stated.

Bad area for a supermarket because of the congestion caused by Dario's, Mark nephew's carwash and the staff of Natural Resouces & labour

High overhead drive up costs, and we are already experiencing this with the opening of the East End store. Is it really worthwhile?

I agree. The One Mart prices in East End are higher than the other supermarkets there. He purchased Pussers, has a supermarket in Purcell, Baughers Bay, East End, and now this new one. I'm just saying "WOW". Good luck to you Mark because you sure are working hard.
