EAST END, Tortola, VI- The Emmett Caines Knockout Football Tournament opened on Saturday, September 17, 2023, with two major upsets after both games had to be decided on penalty kicks at the football field in East End.

Old Madrid and Positive, considered the two weakest teams in the tournament, are through to the second round at the expense of Lion Heart and Rebels.

In the first game of the day, Old Madrid held Lion Heart to a 1-1 draw during regulation time and then came out 3-2 victors, with Danny Joseph scoring the winner.

In the second game, Positive picked up only their second win in all competitions when they shockingly eliminated Rebels, 5-4, on penalties.

Positive trailed 0-2 at halftime but amazingly came back to hold Rebels to a 3-3 draw in regulation time.

Today’s games

Action will continue today, Sunday, September 17, 2023, with three games.

VG United and Panthers will clash at the Virgin Gorda Recreation Ground from 6:00 PM.                                            

Two entertaining matches are billed for East End, with One Love facing Islanders from 6:00 PM and Wolues squaring off with Sugar Boys from 8:30 PM.
