ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- During his first press conference held on May 25, 2021, newly sworn-in Commissioner of the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) Mr Mark Collins made it clear that he would not launch an investigation into every member of the police force.

Corruption in the RVIPF has long been a topic of discussion and concern; however, this was amplified with the $250 million drug bust involving Policemen Emile Jimenez and Darren Davies in November 2020.

When journalists pressed Commissioner Collins, he said only allegations of wrongdoings would be explored.

"I am not going to commission a wholesale investigation into the police force. If I got allegations of wrongdoings and issues are brought to my attention, I will deal with them most robustly."

'Every single allegation' will be investigated- Collins

The Commissioner sought to explain the reasoning behind his words.

"Let me be clear; I have an organisation of about 400 to 500 people. Within that organization, there will be people that are doing wrong things and criminal activities, and it would be no different to when I was in my police force in the United Kingdom.

"I will investigate every single allegation that is brought before me [but] that does not mean I am going to investigate every single officer in the force. It wouldn't be prudent to do that, it would be not necessary to do that, but I will deal with every allegation that comes before me."

Mr Collins also said several officers belonging to the RVIPF are "suspended at the moment facing court-related activities."

A wholesale investigation is NOT necessary. Waste of time and money! Just deal with those that do wrong harshly.

Step It Up COP. You have nothing to lose. If you do, you die and if you do not do, you still die. Investigate them all that have been brought to your attention and then expose the wrongdoer and his wrongdoings.

Law enforcement needs to develop a culture where the corrupt officer fears the incorruptible officer and not the other way around.
