WEST END, Tortola, VI- The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has disclosed that the young male who died in a scooter accident at West End on December 8, 2021, is 20-year-old Ijahni Scatliffe. While the incident was being labelled as a hit and run, Police stated today that investigations so far have revealed that no vehicle was observed in the area at the time of the mishap.

The accident occurred shortly before 10:00 pm on Wednesday night.

"As officers of the Road Policing Unit ask for witnesses into last night’s accident in the West End area that claimed the life of a 20-year-old male, video footage extracted thus far does not show another vehicle in the area at the time of his collision," the RVIPF stated in a press release today, December 9, 2021.

Police said Ijahni Scatliffe, 20, of West End was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was found unresponsive within proximity to his scooter.

Video footage shows no vehicle in area

According to the RVIPF, Acting Superintendent of Operations Dariel Robinson says investigations continue at this time but video footage from the scene shows no other vehicles were near or by the accident scene prior to the collision which took place around 9:00 pm.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Road Policing Unit directly at 468-5364 or Acting Sergeant Kishon Leslie directly at 368-9811.

"Investigations are ongoing in the matter," Police said.

Something is not adding up. Video footage shows no vehicles in the area, if that is the case, why video footage did not pick up when and what the scooter crash into.

If it’s cctv from a business, it may only show part of the road. It’s a shame the footage doesn’t show the accident so the police can find out what happened and give the poor family some closure.

So how can they determine the time of the accident if his body was found on the scene?

If cctv footage shows the rider going past near to where he was found, it would be reasonable to assume that that was the time of the accident. Sad as it is, it is entirely possible that he lost control of the bike shortly after the footage shows him going passed. We haven’t seen the evidence so we shouldn’t be speculating.

May his soul RIP. I have seen before scooters riders fall without hitting anything. I saw one time one fall got up puck up his bike and start to ride again. It is not impossible for him to be speeding and list control.

Just like the man down in ST. Thomas last week that use to report the weather and worked for WAPA was found sitting outside his home in his car dead from a gunshot wound to his upper body. The police said he committed suicide but no gun was found in the car nor did anyone who live in the area heard any gunshots at 5:am in the morning.

A nice looking young man. Condolences go out to the parents and other relatives. Was in class with my daughter at their primary school age. When we are born, we don’t know when and how we will go. Every time something like this happens to someone other than ourselves, we reflect on how loving we should be to each other especially to family and soon after we back to our old routine. I guess it takes a lot of effort from all of us to just get together and love.

Could it be possible that he was being chased by a Police vehicle?
  • Dancing Fly (11/12/2021, 08:47) Like (0) Dislike (0) Reply
The possibility and most likely is that he lost control of his speeding scooter or vice versa.
When your young man becomes another scooter rider in the Vi,purchase or increase insurance on his life .You will be blessed with his gift of giving. No moo moo should die in vain.
