ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon Andrew A. Fahie (R1) has debunked an article by 284 Media today, June 9, 2021, stating that government is moving to have teachers and frontline workers vaccinated or be subjected to bi-monthly COVID-19 testing.

Government, while encouraging the population to get vaccinated, has made it clear on many occasions that it has no intentions of forcing the vaccine on anyone.

The article by 284 Media, which claimed that the announcement was made by Acting Chief Education Officer Connie E. George at a meeting with education stakeholders, including school principals, today, June 9, 2021, took the public by surprise.

The article; however, neither quoted Mrs George nor stated whether it had sought confirmation from alternative sources.

'I made no such statement'- CEO Connie E. George

The news report by 284 Media; however, has since been branded as fake news, even though 284 Media has not yet retracted it.

Mrs George told our newsroom the article was false as she never said what 284 Media has reported.

"[I] made no such statement," Mrs George said this evening.

Meanwhile, Premier Fahie, via his Facebook page, reassured teachers and other frontline staff that the article was not factual.

“People of the Virgin Islands while your elected Government strongly encourages the taking of vaccines in the fight against Covid-19, to date, your elected Government have no knowledge of this alleged decision being made of making vaccines mandatory for teachers and other Frontline staff.”

No such policy approved in Cabinet!

Premier Fahie further said Government has not approved such a policy in Cabinet.

“Your Government remains resolute to date, to not make mandatory the taking of vaccines. We have always stated that it is each person's choice whether they want to be vaccinated or not.”

The Leader of Government Business said he applauds the efforts of public officers but it is “essential that this point be ventilated in the public domain so as to bring clarity to any such concerns that may be floating in the public sphere. Let's keep moving forward together as one people in BVILOVE.”

Why shouldn’t they require vaccinated status? I thought this govt wanted to keep us and our children safe?

How can she claim that our government has “ no knowledge” of such an aledged decision? Surely they are the government and should know whether a decision has been made or not

@Why Not? You speak as a foolish person. I hate to hear people talk about Government "keeping us safe." It is an individual's responsibility to keep one's self safe by building your immune system with natural herbs. Stop the foolishness! Stop acting as if the government is our saviour.

So why private sector have a right to mandate vaccine while government does not support this action?!?!?

Should hotels and resorts expel employees until they get vaccine jab??

Why would they expel them until they get that vaccine? A vaccine that does not cure anything!! A vaccinated individual can still get the vaccine and spread it. A vaccinated person still has to wear a mask!! STOP THE FOOLISHNESS!

Why is she still acting chief education officer? One, she is holding back the education of this country and needs to go. But also, she has been in that pst for years, stop this 'acting' nonsense. Same with the guy in charge at RDA and numerous other places. It does not do well to give such leading figures job insecurity.

The entire education ministry should be overhauled and everyone from the top down replaced by competent people.

It wont be mandatory but it would be MANDATORY for teachers to be tested every 2 weeks!
    • @Hear This! (10/06/2021, 11:01) Like (1) Dislike (0) Reply
Definitely a test every two weeks if they are vaccinated....as we all know, the vaccine reduces symptoms (THAT IS ALL) so if you are vaccinated and teaching our children then we need to know you are not carrying the virus unbeknownst to yourself much less the rest of us.

Anytime Mr Fhoy Bwoy ever mention Mandatory vaccines for the BVI, he and his crew can be arrested and charge for crime against humanity in a international court under the (ICCPR) International Convention Civil Political Rights. And he knows this. nuf said.

I will not allow my child to attend school if the teachers is not vaccinated. I will be sending my child to the US to attend school. Teachers in the US had to be vaccinated before they step back into the classroom. To all of you that have children going to school in the US should know this.
