No lockdown but night curfew returns following COVID-19 surge in VI
It was announced tonight, July 5, 2021, by Minister for Health and Social Development, Hon Carvin Malone (AL) that there are now 480 active cases in the territory.
Hon Malone also announced that among the suppression measures being taken is a nighttime curfew that will be implemented from tomorrow, July 6, 2021.
He said that members of the Health Emergency Operations Centre (HEOC) met at the weekend and updated the Government caucus, together with members of the Opposition, on the current situation.
Cabinet then convened an emergency meeting today to consider measures to be taken to address this upsurge.
He said it was decided that “Cabinet advise the National Security Council to instruct the Attorney General to draft a new curfew order to implement a nighttime curfew from Tuesday, the 6th July 2021, from 11:00pm to 5:00am for a period of 14 days in the first instance.”
After many months, the Virgin Islands had lifted its night-time curfew in April 2021.
Other measures
Other measures include that all private and public schools, including pre-schools, childcare centres, summer programmes and extracurricular activities cease in-person activities with effect from July 6, 2021, for 14 days but subject to re-examination after 7 days.
Except with the approval of the Minister of Health, all businesses and workplaces are to restrict numbers to a limit of up to 65 persons at a time per location subject to adequate social distancing protocols being maintained in accordance with guidance from the Chief Environmental Health Officer.
Cabinet also decided that social gatherings, including faith based organisations, weddings and funerals be limited to 25 persons at a time.
All ferries are to restrict numbers to a limit of up to 65 persons at a time.
Cabinet decided that hairdressers, barbers, gyms, bars, clubs and entertainment establishments be closed and that restaurants for in house dining be limited to 1 person per 36 square feet to a maximum occupancy of 25 persons, inclusive of staff and patrons.
Visitation to Her Majesty’s Prison (HMP) and residential facilities such as the Adina Donovan Home for the Elderly, Virgin Gorda Elderly Home, Rainbow Children’s Home, Safe Haven Transitional centre and private residential centres have also been restricted.

when our people wanted to come to the place of their birth they had to quarantine for 14 days(play the fu(&ing tape)
however when the visitors want to come here they are allowed to quarantine just for a few hours then free to roam(facts….
i also conclude some of the documents are fake because look at us now the proof is right before our eyes
what were the number of infections before we reopened the ports to non-residents
Vaccinated comes and goes without
Who’s spreading ?
Not to mention they coming in with unvaccinated kids.
Yet they blaming unvaccinated stupes.
This long weekend should have been 24hr lockdown to mitigate the spread but guess what everybody was out and about congregating.
What a joke oh and wait 11pm ?
It shouldn’t even have a curfew why bother?
COVID-19 virus they injected in people's body. You all better wake up to the truth. All these people coming in here fully vaccinated plus those who live here hmm trouble. It is now the thing start. What I don't understand is that, they are telling people to get vaccinated to prevent the spread of COVID-19 but yet the vaccine can't prevent you from getting the virus. That you can still spread it if you get it. Is that make sense to you all? If you take it you still have to follow guidelines , social distancing and wearing of mask.To me that makes no sense at all.
The 2nd dose is not a live virus. That’s not how it works.
NO ONE WANTS TO TRAVEL TO A COUNTRY TO HAVE TO QARAUNTINE. Most passengers who travel to the BVI comes through the USVI. THEY ARE NOT LEAVING THE USVI TO COME THE BVI TO 1.QARAUNTINE (to waste almost a week of their vacation days) 2. PAY LOADS OF FEES FOR A PORTAL (in addition to the money they would have to spend for their hotel stay, pre-entry and departing COVID Tests).
COVID is here and WILL BE AROUND FOR A LONG TIME. SO to lockdown or implement more restrictions will be doing us more harm than good. NOT TO MENTION: Everyone became lax with the social distancing and hygienic precautions. What you thought was going to happen.
here we are a few months later and our own people’s lives hanging in the balance
we relax everything so the visitors can come
to the british virgin but at the end of the day see who suffering; those who reside here back to Square one
our places of employment and our businesses have been disrupted again people coming should be mandatory quarantine(that process was working just fine)
six of one
half dozen of the other
2. If you want to make an exception for vaxxed adults with children, testing and mandatory quarantine.
3. Rapid test fully vaxxed. Should have all testing done prior to travel and upon arrival.
It’s not a vaccinated population problem. The fastest way out of this is vaccination.
