HOLLYWOOD, Los Angeles, USA- The shock of the 2022 Oscars held at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on March 27, 2022, was not about the biggest winners or losers but a slapping and choice words dished out by actor and rapper Willard Carrol Smith aka ‘Will’ towards comedian Christopher Julius Rock aka ‘Chris’.

After Rock joked that he couldn’t wait to see Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, in “G.I. Jane 2,” Smith ran onto the stage at Dolby Theatre and hit Rock in the face.

The audio was cut and censored for several seconds, but captions indicated that the “King Richard” star said, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f–king mouth.” Audio from the uncensored Australian broadcast confirmed this.

Before Smith smacked the comedian, Rock had made a joke about Pinkett being in the fake action film because of her bald head. She had previously spoken about having a hair loss condition, alopecia.

Twitter shocked!

According to New York Post, Twitter was shocked by the viral moment, with many fans immediately expressing their thoughts after the segment. “Okay….WHAT JUST HAPPENED with that will and Chris thing #Oscars,” one wrote.

Another added, “We wont talk about Bruno, but we need to talk about Will and Chris? Wtf just happen? #Oscars#Oscars2022.”

One fan chimed in, “i’m sitting right here and i thought that was scripted. that was not scripted oh my god what’s the story will and chris?!!! #Oscars.”

Someone wrote, “Jaws are on the floor here at Neons #Oscars party after what just happened between Will and Chris Rock.”

Another joked, “how are they gonna have a gospel segment after what just happened with will and chris.” The In Memoriam portion of the telecast was presented right after the wild moment.

“The Oscars had to bring the gospel singers out after will and chris mess #oscars,” said one user.

With tears streaming down his face, Smith-during his acceptance speech after winning Best Actor for his role in King Richard- apologised for his behaviour on national television and at the Oscars but notably did not apologise to Rock.

The Academy Award was hosted by actors Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes, making them the first all-female team of hosts in history.

It was also the first time the Oscars was held physically ever since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

    it was just a joke since when people can joke around? JI Jane a play on the movie and her name. and since when it's ok to just hit someone because we don't like what they say? are we so lawless? that's what we want our children to do? GI Jane was a beautiful strong woman who over came all obstacle that was put in her way, why could it not be seen as such? Will laughed at the joke he got it, then because Jada was upset he channel his best Tupac. everyone who supports Wills behavior is what's wrong with society today.
