ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Talk show host Donald deCastro says it is shameful that the post office in Road Town is not fully functional.

“So many contracts and lots of rhetoric are main issues, however, I am not seeing any attention given to the post office situation in our capital. It’s now almost one year since a single window is open to sell stamps and postcards and only on the days when the cruise ships are in port with no concern for residents,” Mr. deCastro said on his radio programme Straight Talk on Wednesday March 7, 2012.

According to him, the policy was established by the VIP Government and is being continued under the NDP Government of Premier Dr. D. Orlando Smith. “And I personally brought this to the attention of the present Premier and his remarks to me were why don’t I sell stamps.”

deCastro added that he has done quite a lot of travels around the world but the Virgin Islands is the only place that “does not have a functional post office in its capital and I think it is shameful”.

Man deCastro you are just a confusion maker! All you do is moan and moan, what have you done to better this Territory? Man you are so sickening! We all know why the Post Office is not there. We also know that there have been plans, over 10yrs now to relocate the Post Office. It had no call being on Main Street and it has no call being in the heart of town. As far as I'm aware the post office on Main Street still offer certain services for convenience. Dr Smith answered you just right, glad to see him growing some balls!

This is what they shoulda had the lil boy getting on stream. Road town is the business center of the territory and there is no post office. That national business breau won't be nothing more than couple handouts for a few priviledged persons. Maybe they could even start tackling home deliveries, but I'll shut my mouth since I won't go look work what I know.

I agreed with Mr Decastro. It is time to address the Post Office. The Post Office location is in it's rightful place and not only that the building is historical and the tourist always coming around to view the building and also look forwarding to purchasing stamps. We all know the NDP just got in, but look the amount of projects they already started and some are done. Dr Smith did not mean anything by asking DeCastro why he don't sell stamps, it was only a good gesture.

The lil boy as you put it had to move the post office from that building before one of his employees got killed from the mould in that old run down building. That was in the news so I don't know why deCastro is acting like he's shocked. It was well known that the move of the post office was temporary while they sorted out issues in town. I never hear one business complain or any individual being vocal about it being moved temporarily. Why? Most people have common sense and understand when certain things are done. But any reason to take a jab at OJ and/or NDP you all will take advantage. What did VIP do about it for 4yrs? Where were all these complains when they were in power? Everybody sat on their dumb a$$ and said nothing because they were afraid of big bad ralph and liberator. But now they want to jump down the newly elected Government throat as if they caused the problems. It's NDP problems now and they have 4yrs to tackle them, have patience.

ppl.....its only 3 months its amazing where Mr. deCastro was 4 years ago to not comment on this issues! its totally unfair now to expect the government to address every concern in a space of 3 months..there are so many pertinent issues to deal with, and Dr. Smith was right for tell him to sell stamps as well (and if it was me I would have told him to wet it before he stick it) well what a ting!

I do not like Mr Decastro's arguments 99% of the time, but i think it is ok for him to remind the Premier of something which many of us might of over look,so go easy on him . I think he cast a vote like all of us. After all, this is a democratic country and all of us has a right tospeak our mindon issues bothering us.

I have to agree with Mr. deCastro on this one. The post office being outside of town has been somewhat of an inconvenience. Being in the heart of town I was able to park one place and run all my errands in town and visit the post office to pick up packages and buy stamps and such in one location. I am now aware that you can now purchase stamps only at the end of the post office which I knew to be General Delivery and at Esme's and the Drug store. However I still have to go outside of town if I wish to pick up packages or letters I have to sign for.

Do you all realise that the location of the Post Office is on the map as being part of Road Town? Mr. DeCastro needs to go sit down and find some constructive work to do. I getting tired of this old man talking piss. Did he find out why the Post Office had to be re-located? It's a temp fix until they find another place in town. At that time there were no vacant spots in town and the health of the employees were at risk. The Post Office will be moved back in town..he like to blow his stupid horn without investigating first.
