No communication with ex-Premier Fahie to date- Premier Wheatley
Hon Fahie's arrest was announced by Governor John J. Rankin CMG, on the afternoon of April 28, 2022, when it was also announced that then Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA), Ms Oleanvine Pickering-Maynard was arrested in a separate but connected sting.
Once bustling with updates on various Government initiatives as well as information on his work as Premier, Hon Fahie’s social media pages across Facebook and Twitter now sit abandoned, with the last update made on April 27, 2022, when he was at the Seatrade Cruise Global in Miami.
Communications limited?
Premier Dr the Hon Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) told our newsroom today, August 16, 2022, that to date he has not directly communicated with Hon Fahie.
One other legislator, ex-Minster for Health and Social Development Hon Carvin Malone (AL) who now sits in the Opposition, said on June 15, 2022, that he got word through a third party from the ex-Premier, that Hon Fahie was "okay".
When pressed on whether he has spoken to the Premier, he added: “I didn’t have the opportunity as yet. I got word that he sent to make sure that I was informed, that he inquired about me, and that he wanted to just let me know that he was okay,” Hon Malone said during a press conference.
It remains unclear if and when the ex-Premier will release a statement for the people of the VI; however, Hon Fahie has been writing to the House of Assembly (HoA) to formally request leave from the HoA in a bid to hold on to the First District seat.
HoA Speaker Hon Corine N. George-Massicote has since denied Hon Fahie Leave of Absence from future sittings of the HoA under Hon Fahie’s current bail condition in the United States.
This means Hon Fahie may potentially lose his First District seat.
