NORTH SOUND, Virgin Gorda, VI - Candidate for district nine with the National Democratic Party 1 (NDP1), Dr the Hon Hubert R. O’Neal who two days ago demanded apologies from both Claude O. Skelton-Cline and Virgin Islands Party (VIP) ninth district candidate, Mr Vincent O. Wheatley did not receive any and may have to meet them in court.

I will sue

Dr O’Neal, the incumbent in the ninth district race alleged that Skelton-Cline while chairing a VIP launch meeting in North Sound, Virgin Gorda on Sunday, February 10, 2019, suggested that he was “bribing residents  for votes with an accumulated amount of $200,000 by handing out portions of this money in white envelopes.”

Hon O’Neal also said that he wanted a public apology also from Mr Wheatley because he never denounced the suggestions by Skelton-Cline.

To this, Dr O’Neal made a public statement saying, “I demand both apologies to be made verbally on ZBVI and written on Facebook, from where these utterances were broadcasted to the public, by 12 noon on Nomination Day 14th February 2019.”

He noted that “Receiving no apology by the prescribed deadline will result in legal action for libel and slander.”

No apology

The deadline has passed today, Thursday, February 14, 2019, and our newsroom caught up with both Skelton-Cline and Wheatley. Both men have told our news Centre they have not issued an apology nor is there any intention to do such, “it is not going to happen,” one stated.

They both await the next move by Dr O’Neal, who is struggling in a three-man race in the ninth district which consists of Virgin Gorda and Anegada.  Dr O’Neal faces the Progressive Virgin Islands Movement (PVIM) aka ‘NDP2’ Jose C. B de Castro and VIP’s Wheatley.

Dr O'Neal, please quit while you are ahead. You were victorious the last Election, because the people felt that you deserved a chance. You have gotten that chance, don't make it hard on yourself this time around. Peace.
