NLBC honours VI’s Unsung Heroes’



The Awardees are being recognised by the New Life Baptist Church (NLBC) which is gearing to host its annual ‘Unsung Heroes’ Award’
Posthumous
According to a NLBC missive on March 19, 2019, the NLBC Unsung Hero Award recipients are Xavier Dag H.M. Samuels, who will be the first to receive the award pusthumously and will receive the award for service in athletics and youth development along with Mr Patrick O. Harrigan who will receive the award for service in athletics, youth development and programming.
Others include, Ms Erma Vanterpool who will be the first resident on a sister island to receive the award and will receive the award for service in education and youth instruction and Ms Sharlene S. DaBreo, MBE, who will receive the award for service in disaster preparedness and community readiness development.
The activity also marks the 15th anniversary of the Service of Recognition for Virgin Islands’ Unsung Heroes, which began in 2005.
The 2019 Honouress will be celebrated with a pre-service breakfast, musical and poetic tributes, a cash honorarium and will be joined by past honourees for the breakfast and Service.
Heroes Sunday
NLBC in 2005 opened its doors to about 500 persons for the first ever “Service of Thanksgiving for VI’s Unsung Heroes”—at the time called ‘Heroes Sunday.’
The ‘Sunday’ spearheaded by then Pastor, now Bishop John I. Cline, “was created as a church and community expression of thanks to men and women who had made significant contributions to the to the success of this Territory.
Past recipients of the NLBC Unsung Heroes’ Award have included politicians, teachers, youth activists, community leaders, entrepreneurs, lawyers and industry leaders. The 15th Annual Service of Recognition for Virgin Islands Unsung Heroes will be begin promptly at 10 o’clock in the morning and will be held at the New Life Baptist Church, Duff’s Bottom, Tortola.
