NLB Church to host International Night
Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Lucia, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Phillipines, United States of America and Virgin Islands will all be in one place at the New Life Baptist Church for the much anticipated International Night.
The activity is set for Saturday March 23, 2013 from 4 P.M. The Parade of Nations and Cultural Showcase begin at 6 P.M.
According to the church's Public Relations Unit, Bishop John I. Cline has expressed his delight to see the return of the event, which is organised by the church's Public Relations Ministry. The last event of its type was held five years ago when Guyan won the trophy for the best showcase.
"This is the first International Night for the New Life Baptist Church as the event was formerly known as Caribbean Night. The name change is the result of the church's growing and diverse membership. The New Life Baptist Church has some 500 members representing 20 nationalities," said Bishop Cline.
Already the event has attracted local companies such as Digicel, LIME and CCT, who are partnering with the church to offer products to enhance international connectivity and ministry. The companies will also be providing special prizes to persons attending the event.
It is said that the buzz within the church is high as teams have been meeting for weeks to plan their menus and cultural items for the presentation. The event will feature a Parade of Nations which will see each country modelling their national dress and flags. Also, each country has to prepare a dish utilising this year's special ingredient- pumpkin. Countries will be judged on the information they share in their tents about the country, the atmosphere they create at their tent, and for being ready to serve on time.
Music will be provided by a DJ and a gospel fungei band. Children will also be able to play on bouncy castles that will be brought in for their enjoyment.
"We love people at the New Life Baptist Church and we especially love people that come to visit us from different parts of the world. If they make New Life their home church, we have an obligation to make them feel welcome and a part of our congregation and community; this event aids that. It is a great way to offer our members a cultural exchange experience within their own church," stated the Bishop.
He added that being a diverse congregation, the church decided to create an event that celebrates the identities of the people. "We see our diversity as one of our major strengths."
