ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- As the Virgin Islands eagerly waited to hear what would be the plans after the 14-day lockdown ends on April 19, 2020, Deputy Premier and Minister for Health and Social Development, Honourable Carvin Malone (AL) disclosed to a regional media house on April 13, 2020, that the Virgin Islands would continue to observe a nightly curfew from April 20, 2020.

“Well in terms of the 24-hour curfew, we have a particular condition where it is now being mandated until the 19th but we are going to call it 6:00am on the 20th and then we will go into a 12 or 13-hour soft curfew during the day,” Honourable Malone informed Prime Time Caribbean.

Phased approach to local business reopening

Honourable Malone added that the Government will try to "reintroduce critical businesses" and after the first 7 days other businesses will be allowed to return to operation, “so we will have internal movements only.”

He said the Territory’s borders will remain closed for 30 days.

“After the 30 day period, where we have 12 hours on and 12 hours at night under curfew, we will then be able to look in terms of reintroducing our citizens and our belongers and other persons into the Territory but this will have to be done in a phased approach so that we can have the proper quarantine time so that we don’t retard the progress we have made,” Honourable Malone said.

Premier and Minister of Finance, Honourable Andrew A. Fahie (R1) had said on April 9, 2020, that the borders of the Virgin Islands will continue to remain closed even after the 14-day lockdown period has ended.

You can not say at half time you have for. We are at half time. We have to reopen slowly as is planned so we do not make any missteps in the process. What we are doing is leading as we have gotten pass where many countries are trying to get you and we now lead the way out successfully. don't worry the world is looking.

So tri how parents are going to work of they got their kids at home and have to stay and watch them it not fair that we cant make a dollar by working and taking our kids with us it all will be too much pressure for the parents to handle

Welcome to the new world. For too long you all have been spoiled expecting Government and other people to take responsibility for your children. We cannot continue to expect this to happen. It is now time to shoulder your burden. Between you and the father of your children to sit down and work out how to handle family matters. We had three weeks to do practice.

I went on vacation on the 20th March was to return on the 1st April. Since I arrived at my vacation location im on lock down from quarantine to curfew. I was so looking forward to returning.. I am out of money, my cash is in First bank in Tortola, have an apartment i will now have to pay two propably three months rent without actually been in it... I have a Job i will no longer have because im out too long.. dont even no if my apartment is safe, or if anyone tamper with it.. Soon hurricane season will be here, the way it seems i may not get back in time to prepare and secure... What can i say. Im just an Island Person, I have no say. I just have to pray.. Difinetely not looking good, i put it all in the hands of the lord...
