ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Applications are now open for a new cohort of entrepreneurs under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Grant Programme.

The application process, which closes on May 23, 2025, is being administered by Mr Leroy James Jr, Business Development Manager, through the National Business Bureau.

Junior Minister for Financial Services, Trade and Economic Development Hon Lorna G. Smith, OBE (AL), had said in April 2025 that a new round of applications would be opened with amended criteria to help serve more small business owners.

This programme aims to empower local entrepreneurs and stimulate economic growth in the Virgin Islands (VI).

Criteria

This grant was first launched in August 2024, and the application process began the following month.

According to the flyer posted on social media, businesses must be fully locally owned and registered in the Virgin Islands, possess a valid Trade License, be in compliance or have a payment plan with the Social Security Board, Inland Revenue Department and National Health Insurance.

Business owners are reminded to also submit status updates, a business description and a comprehensive business plan that clearly states the need for the grant and its intended use.

Hon Smith had said the selection committee was looking to make the criteria a bit easier for persons to access the funds.

Applications already received were being reviewed by the committee ahead of this new round of applications.

Businesses have already benefited from the grant programme

Depending on the applicant’s need and the potential impact, grants will range from $1000 to $7000, and in December 2024, the first cohort of 26 entrepreneurs received grants under the programme.

Application forms are readily available online for those wishing to take advantage of the Small Business Development Grant Programme.

Interested business owners are invited to submit the required information to the attention of Mr James at email BVINBB@gov.vg.
