ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI- Many residents of Tortola may have observed the construction of an additional road lane adjacent to Queen Elizabeth II Park in Road Town.

This is an ongoing effort by the Dr Natalio D. Wheatley (R7) Administration to ease the traffic congestion in Road Town, the capital city.

In an invited comment, Minister for Communications and Works  Hon Kye M. Rymer (R5) said, “The additional lane is to connect up the ferry terminal.”

It is believed this will help reduce the traffic backup, especially for residents and tourists traversing the roadway to depart for Virgin Gorda, St Thomas, or other destinations via the Road Town Ferry Terminal.

Potholes? Relief has come

Since taking office in 2019, the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) Government under Minister Rymer has sought to address the traffic congestion issue in the capital city.

The subsequent ‘traffic turnaround’ in Road Town resulted in an easy flow of traffic throughout the capital city.

However, critics continued to raise the issue of the many potholes in the roadways.

Now that the asphalt plant is up and working there have been signs of significant improvements in reducing the many potholes on the road network.

We are fed up of the road garbage and water issues. We have a budget same as Trinidad with millions of people. something not adding up. Minister please also note we need Athea Scatlife rebuild and hope there is an auditorium built that can be used for hosting basic events since we don't have the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall.

What start bad will end bad. the prep of that road is bad .
Then yall gone n put asphalt on it let it harden with the bumps in it . That'll be one bump road when done . It would better serve as a pull off n parking for the park to be honest

That stretch of road has lots of traffic including heavy concrete trucks, lorries, etc. the new road was not prepared to carry all that weight, drainage was not addressed properly and the actual traffic jam issue is by the Ferry Terminal and this is not being addressed.

A couple of wardens issuing tickets for drivers who park at non-parking zones would do the job and bring money in instead of cost Government money.

BVI cannot fix roads, they have been a disgrace since day one. We need to bring in QUALIFIED people who know how to build roads that will last for years to come, these temporary fixes are an embarrassment and costly, just throwing asphalt in a hole does not work. Roads the Romans built thousands of years ago are still used today. Our roads last a week if that, shhh. We are good at a lot of things but building and maintaining roads is certainly not one of them.

We go building a new road instead of addressing the actual issue, which is the lack of parking enforcement for all the cars “just taking a minute to pick up” and blocking the road, not to mention the disgrace of a parking lot that is on either side of the terminal itself, with so much wasted space.

I saw it. Nice. Two lane heading west, middle lane into Mc Namara, left outside lane continue west. Like it...Now I am thinking if Kye was in charge of COI recommendation implementation, we wouldn't have these issues with the Gov and Britain, the work would have been done. . The Premier is, I won't say lazy, I would say, don't care, wilfull, rebellious and stubborn .That's not the right approach in this case. Live in peace , stick to his word, get the work done..

Since Paul wattley died we never got a minister in this ministry, all of them that passed are waste of time. Remember one had placed a stop light at Road Town roundabout.

Was the same one who introduced traffic lights to our territory. And the ones around the round about might have worked. Look at the round about now.

Fraser was the one who put the traffic light on the round a bout. The contractor told him it wont work he said lets see. Traffic backed up all the way to the Pub before he turned them off.

While we talking about residents and tourists deperting when there's a ferry in from ST Thomas rhe taxi man dem uses the drop off area as their taxi line leave you to make your drop off in the road.please don't read this as something negative, font wait for something to happen to go and fix this.
  • What? (08/01/2024, 08:08) Like (2) Dislike (0) Reply
Seriously, this 300 yard stretch of new asphalt is going to solve nothing. Instead, it will create traffic bottlenecks. And as someone write earlier, create a nice new piece of road for drag racing. Lucky Lorna!

The main congestion issue in town is the access to the ferry drop off area. The drop off area is totally inadequate. The taxi drivers are double parked to get as close to the pick up point. The taxi parking area is n the opposite side of the terminal which is never used. What needs to be done is have access to the ferry terminal by the taxi parking area which is empty. relocate the food stand. This way you can have a road access into the terminal and lots of car parking. Like the airport. This will allow free flowing traffic and safe pick up and drop off for passengers.

With this non sense being done. How the hell with this road connect to the cruise ship road when you have st ferry in the middle. You gone and was thousands and disrupt traffic for stupidness.

No person with a brain working at pwd architectural section. Or no one with balls to say. That make sense as the young people would say

Should have been a bike lane for all them tourists of the cruise can ride safely, instead of getting in traffic way on the road
