ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI - In an effort to strengthen local food production, enhance food security and expand economic opportunities in the agriculture and fisheries sectors, the government has launched a Commercial Agriculture and Fisheries Grant Programme.

Registered commercial farmers, licensed commercial fishers, agro-processors, fish processors, and new entrants proposing viable commercial operations supported by sound business plans are being encouraged to take advantage of this programme.

Programme targets financial & in-kind support

In a release, the government stated that, "this programme provides targeted financial and in-kind assistance to support equipment and production inputs, vessel and facility repairs and upgrades, processing and packaging, innovation and modern technology, and training and capacity-building initiatives. Grant funding may not be used for the purchase of land."

Funding across three categories

The release further stated that "funding is available across three categories: up to $10,000 for small-scale operations, up to $25,000 for medium-scale operations, and up to $50,000 for large-scale operations and applicants may submit more than one application within a fiscal year, subject to the applicable funding ceiling."

It added that, "all applications will be assessed by the Commercial Agriculture and Fisheries Grant Committee in accordance with the approved policy."
