New ferry service for Jost van Dyke to begin May 1
This announcement was made by the Acting Managing Director of the BVI Ports Authority, Dean B. Fahie, during the Sip & Mingle: Directors’ Chat held on Jost van Dyke on April 23, 2026.
Fahie shared that the new ferry service, Ocean Dreams, is one of several upcoming improvements for Jost van Dyke.
“Some of the new things that we have focused on for Jost van Dyke is, effective May first, there is gonna be another ferry service.”
Improve connectivity
He stated that this new ferry service will improve connectivity between the island of Jost van Dyke and the rest of the territory, leading to “increased reliability, improved scheduling, and greater convenience for residents and visitors.”
Currently, ferries to Jost van Dyke primarily operate from West End, Tortola. New Horizon Ferry Service provides daily trips to Great Harbour, which take approximately 25 minutes.
There have been historical and periodic issues regarding ferry services to Jost van Dyke, primarily focused on limited direct routes from St Thomas, inconsistent schedules, and reliance on smaller vessels from Tortola. While options like New Horizon Ferry Service operate regularly, travellers often rely on private water taxis or connections via Tortola’s West End.
